Yep...but I'm working today and making Double time and a half...I'd like to say Thank you to all the crying arse descendants of former slaves who made this Holiday possible

Shouldn’t today be considered an observance vs a holiday?

Who cares. Is ‘Presidents Day’ important? I can’t name a president in my lifetime that wasn’t a complete baffoon. The current one breaks all the records.

What's the definition of a naturally occurring holiday? New Year's?

Also it doesn't add a new holiday halfway between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

It adds one between memorial day and 4th of July weekend

Anyone that complains about this is just miserable

It’s funny in SC, people are complaining about early voting for runoffs being truncated due to the holiday

How much time do you need to vote for gay Senator?

January 1

Already have a federal holiday

Exactly. Which means we can celebrate and not have to give people another day off.

OR start giving people NYE off for that holiday and Jan 1 as emancipation day. That way we get 2 days in a row....

I don't need another holiday between memorial day and July 4th.....

There's a few towns in Louisiana and other parts of the south outside of Texas that had Junetenth events for last few decades or so. It hasn't really been a "new thing" for a while. It's usually organized by groups like churches, black chamber of commerce, black fraternities/sororities, and the like. The federal holiday just allowed local governments to take part.

where a holiday was least needed, aside from having one 2 and a half weeks after New Years - what idiot signed off on that one?

That is an easy fix.

Move the Superbowl back a week and it will fall on President's Day weekend.

Only problem will be New Orleans hosting a Superbowl. Mardi Gras would have to be very early or very late, otherwise parades would fall on high traffic Superbowl days.

Whatever day is picked, white people shouldn't be allowed to celebrate it. Neither should the mexicans.

What about me, I'm 1% African. Can I celebrate 1% of it?
