They look like a blend of Turks and Mongols.

Had a buddy who was deployed to Kyrgyzstan for 6 months. That’s all I got.

It's pretty much always been a crossroads from east to west (silk road and the like). Genetically, it's pretty much thoroughly mixed between Europe and East Asia. It's been a relatively stable area, at least compared to somewhere like the the middle east.

Yeah it's pretty boring. It's the world's definition of "fly over country."

There was a Gulag uprising in Kazakhstan at Kengir. Solzhenitsyn wrote about it.

That's nice.

My point in this thread is not that this area sucks, just that it is barely talked about and hardly known about. Major world history courses at colleges likely don't have a single chapter or even paragraph reference this area.

I just got off a flight in Frankfurt from Atyrau Kazakhstan. The country is 3-5 decades behind, but they are some of the hardest working, nice people I have ever met.

Yeah, people throughout history who said this about Central Asia tend to learn to regret it

They did their fighting hundreds/thousands of years ago, even before the Middle East starting fighting. They are probably some of the best fighters from back in the day.

They are quiet, humble, and don’t want to be bothered. It is one of those things where history learned a long time ago not to poke this bear. They haven’t really been involved in much in the modern era which is what they wanted.
