Yeah, Thanksgiving seems like a bigger holiday today than it was when I was a kid. My kids are out of school the whole week, while we only got Thursday and Friday. Some offices even close for the whole week.

The Pilgrims were intrinsically religious. There has never been a religious element to Thanksgiving, however. I’ve never heard of anyone going to church on Thanksgiving.

That's because you surround yourself with heathens, non-believer.

The devout go to church every day.

Religious meaning aside, Thanksgiving > Christmas.

Political correctness and our alleged mistreatment of "indigenous" peoples. The Pilgrims were the "first Americans," and are responsible for all of the oppression, hatred, disease, unhappiness, and inequality on the entire continent of North America.

People just tired of being stressed out by family at the end of November.

But it started as pagan in the old countries.

All these "christian holidays" based around solstices, equinoxes, and harvest times. Weird.

People who are without are truly thankful for what they have.

Americans today have it all and are only envious of what others have that they don't

Self-persecution is a mental disorder.

Obama and AOC ain't out there taking your holidays away.

Thanksgiving doesn’t generate the money Halloween and Christmas do so of course it’s pushed into the background.

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day all topped Halloween—largely because of gift-giving traditions. But even Easter outpaced Halloween for expected outlay, the NRF found.

Was there some promotion of Thanksgiving that is no longer happening?

A plan by CrazyAngelle and her Q crowd trying to keep all the tinfoil for themselves instead of the rest of us using it for our leftovers.

Thanksgiving turned into my favorite holiday as I’ve gotten older. No pressure to get gifts and decorate but all the food and family of Christmas. I love it

To whom do you think the Pilgrims and generations of Americans were giving thanks? The Spaghetti Monster?

I did't read your whole post, but to answer the question in the title its pretty simple.

People spend a lot more on Christmas than they do on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is good for the grocery business, but people start preparing for Christmas on Thanksgiving.. People start planning their Black Friday trips, looking through Christmas decorations to see what they have to go buy to set up their decorations, etc.

And the earlier you shop for Christmas, the better chance there is that you will buy more before Christmas. Some retail make their money during Christmas season.

If Thanksgiving was more than eating Turkey, watching football and/or going to the camp.. There would be more promotion of it, but I don't think it has really been "pushed to the background". Personally, I rather Thanksgiving than Christmas.
