To be fair, he's not saying Ole Miss or the people in Oxford are racist. It's just a perception that older black people have because of the history, etc. Shouldn't be controversial, but of course people will have a come apart.

100%

Although I do think Oxford is probably one of the more racist schoo

How many times you plan on saying “leftists”? Is everything, in your mind, right vs left? I mean what are we talking about here? I’m a man, you’re, presumably, a man. Let’s discuss history, as men. Just still the facts. I don’t care how you vote.

You haven’t presented a single fact. You cited a subjective book recommendation and then layered on your own subjective opinion as if that settles the argument. It doesn’t.

I did not cite a book. I cited an event from history. But I’m sure a book, podcast, or literally anything exists that I’d encourage you to absorb however suits you easiest.

And you pretending to be an unbiased moderate while parroting tired standard leftist talking points is pretty amusing to me.

Tired standard leftist talking points? You mean only leftists are not okay with the United States funding genocidal, psychopathic rebel leaders?

It may shock you to learn I’m from a combo of Sabine and Vernon parish. Moved to small town Tennessee. Born and raised conservative. I’m not some commie blue haired lefty you’ve envisioned just because I disagree with countries exploiting other countries either for their resources, or in the spirit of “fighting the spread of communism” or in most cases, both.

Now, all that being said, I do have some book recommendations if you’re willing to open your mind.

And I’m patiently waiting on your facts. It’s late so I’ll check back in tomorrow.

Got it, so since you are assuming I am some Reddit prick (I genuinely don’t know what this means) you’re just going to lean in to being obdurate? I am presenting facts regarding what has taken place as far back as a few centuries, and as recent as a few decades ago, to drive home a point.

If you have facts to support your stance, or are interested in having a discussion with someone outside of your bubble, just give me a shout, on here, tigerdroppings. Not on Reddit.

Copy, so you have never read a book or have a modicum of understanding of history. As I’ve laid out a couple times in this thread, feel free to google the phrase “United States and Jonas Savimbi” and come back.

You learn something new every day.

now deserve the right to the wealth and property of modern Belgians as compensation, effectively destroying Belgian society, then you’re absolutely correct, we do have different moral compasses

Brother all I ever said was that Africa has been raided for its resources for most of modern history, implying that plays a role into these cities being as dangerous as they are today. Poverty is a breeding ground for crime

and that because Belgium put the entire Congo population into slavery a couple of centuries

If that’s too far back, there are several examples within our lifetime we can discuss. Depending on your age.

Who’s to say they wouldn’t have? Or that they needed to? Does every country need to generate some kind of resource for the rest of the world? Are you a globalist?

If your argument is that, say, Belgium was justified in committing genocide and putting an entire population into slavery in the Congo just so the world could have more rubber, then this conversation isn’t going anywhere. We have different moral compasses.

what were the relative technological and societal differences between the two continents at the time the Europeans began raiding the Africans?

Massive

What’s your point?
I don’t disagree with any of your points. I never made a statement that Africa hasn’t had the opportunity to sustain itself in modern times. Only that it was raided for its resources, which is factually correct. Of course tribal kings, the slave trade, the things you mention, were to their detriment as well. But those were also lead by a select few at the top, which has been the way of Africa since the beginning of recorded history.

We can go back as far as you want to pinpoint where Africa’s issues begin. That’s fine. But everything else in between can’t just be ignored.

Funding UNITA is the most blatant example and is quite recent. Jonas Savimbi was on the American tax dollar payroll and he was a mass murderer that we thought we could benefit from being in power. We not only allowed, but funded, a civil war in the name of fighting communism. To pretend we didn’t directly play a role in today’s Angola is burying your head in the sand

Look, I’m not saying personal choice to rape and pillage isn’t a thing.

But context is important. If Africa hadn’t been raided by Europeans things look a lot different today.

Wait, I want to make sure I understand.

You expected people at a tailgate to know if a particular bar planned to show another game? And you’re confused as to why they didn’t know?

You should read up on what europeans and the UK have done to Africa. Congo, Angola, South Africa to start, but basically the entire continent was pushed into poverty. It’s no surprise they are dangerous places, their resources have been stolen and there’s little to no opportunity for their citizens.
Certainly not
