re: Is there a deeper reason that Thanksgiving has steadily been pushed to the background?

Hmm. The pilgrims might have been Christian, but I didn't realize the Indians (feather, not dot) were.
The retail commercialization of Christmas has pushed "the season" to basically September. Thanksgiving never had a chance... it's starting to pull away from Halloween.
I think Christmas is more about outward displays, and Thanksgiving is more family and inward displays. More people travel "home" for thanksgiving than Christmas. I know when we lived in Texas, we always came back to South LA for Thanksgiving, but we always stayed at our house for Christmas.

I wonder how much that has to do with Black Friday spilling over into Thursday now.

as i get older i realize this more and more
it really hit me in 2007 when i could't go to the family event for Thanksgiving. first time i didn't go since i was banned for a few years
since that time, the Christmas season has exploded (like you said, into September)

Thanksgiving was the reason I got banned on FB.
Timeline posted articles about white people killings Indians for Thanksgiving. People in the comment section trying to make it a big guiltfest. Told them to go grab a razor blade and draw a bath. I was a toxic person on FB they were right to ban me.
Was drinking and smoking a Brisket and some birds from HEB at the time.

I love where it is.
I have a feeling the OP would be decrying its "over-commercialization" if it was something otherwise.

Sorry but I agree with your facebook post. Even liked it

Last I checked the grocery store shrank the inventory size of the beef and pork products to make way for 437 turkeys they brought in.

I think it boils down to there is no money to be made off of Thanksgiving for corporations (except maybe airlines). The only thing you buy is food. I think it is just that since it is always all about money.

Not many buy turkeys any other time of the year unless it is sliced meat.

The Thanksgiving Holiday has been pushed aside by Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Evil turkeys are the reason.

It's been harder for me to get into Thanksgiving as an adult because of not being off the whole week. My dad and I used to go home to Alabama and hunt from Saturday before Thanksgiving until the Sunday after, and it was hands down my favorite week of the year. Now I don't even make it until Friday of Thanksgiving week. I'm hoping when my boys are a little older I will be in a position where I can take the whole week off and re-establish the tradition

It is? Since when?
It’s a thoroughly non religious holiday. I think the reason it gets minimized is that it doesn’t have the tradition of presents like Christmas has

I'd think that TV Streaming services would benefit from it. Netflix and Disney could pimp out Thanksgiving programing all day while the kids watch.

the culture (psychosis?) of nostalgia has just taken over to where Christmas is promoted before Halloween now
it's not some SJW/woke conspiracy. it's just this new culture that has developed. Christmas is the biggest icon of nostalgia in the West (#2 is Disney), so it's not shocking everything else has been pushed aside
I’ve been saying the nostalgia culture has been out of control for a few years now.
I’m not saying I’m above nostalgia or anything, but it seems like so many people are completely wrapped up in it. Adults going to Disney every year and watching the movies without kids is a great example.

That’s fair, however it was certainly a celebration with heavy Christian emphasis for the pilgrims.

Pull your head out the sand scruffy. It goes straight from Halloween to Christmas now. Christmas is even taking over halloween
