Im a liberal democrat but i cant wait for all the WOKE Thanksgiving posts shaming the holiday and the whole country while disregarding that 90% of the world is technically “stolen land” and that natives actually partook in the original feast(s).

To whom do you think the Pilgrims and generations of Americans were giving thanks? The Spaghetti Monster?

So we are now saying thanksgiving is currently largely based on Christianity because of the pilgrims?

and that’s your holier than thou basis of this thread? You are down to die on the hill of the Puritans?

Do you own a history book?

Maybe in a roundabout way. It's about family and giving thanks and football

Wrong, Grasshopper.

But, back on topic - Thanksgiving, is just another holiday that morphs with the times. The pilgrims didn't invent harvest feasts.

Jesus. Threads like this on the OT will make you dumber after reading.

quote:

O Gracious God, we give you thanks for your overflowing generosity to us. Thank you for the blessings of the food we eat and especially for this feast today. Thank you for our home and family and friends, especially for the presence of those gathered here. Thank you for our health, our work, and our play

Here is a thanksgiving prayer.

Thanksgiving in the United States was founded as a religious observation.

Like everything else, it has evolved to some degree. To some, its just a day off to eat turkey and be around family. There are various reasons why people get together for Thanksgiving, but its generally a day people get together to appreciate what we have and be thankful for it.

It's not rocket science

Thanksgiving has always been a tier 3 holiday and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

Also, turkey sucks.

Not really. George Washington declared a day of Thanksgiving in 1789 in reverence to God, but it didn't become an official thing. It had no connection to any "harvest feast" or really anything like Thanksgiving today. It was a one-off thing just that year.

It was made a national holiday during Lincoln's term, and made no direct references to any religion. It was the result of some lady's campaign for it after reading about the Pilgrims' harvest feast in the 1600's.

First off Thanksgiving isn't a religious holiday.

Second, it's a shitty holiday that was used to cover up and white wash the genocide of aboriginal americans.

Thirdly, with more and more americans turning to veganism, this pro-meat holiday is on a sharp downward trend.

It's nice to have a break from work but if you look at the genesis of thanksgiving, it's really some brutally fricked up shite that in no way we should be celebrating.

The native americans and white european colonists weren't passing the stuffing and watching the Lions together.

‘Largely based in religious belief’ as stated in the OP =\= religious holiday

Millions and millions of people have given thanks on the holiday since the country was founded. Who do some of you think those people were praying to?

Employers downplay it because everyone wants to take the week off to be with kids and its annoying as frick

Holidays in order of how great they are as an adult

1. 4th of July
2. Labor Day
3. Memorial Day
4. Thanksgiving
5. New Years (arguably number 4)
6. St Paddys Day
7. Valentines Day
8. Christmas
