Do you really think someone who pays $100 for an oil change can answer those questions?....correctly?

I pay $85 for full synthetic, 6.2 quarts, Bosch filter.

most cars now require you remove skid plates or protective shields to get to the oil filter and drain bolt.

often these are stripped or require funky size sockets or torx bits to remove them

lastly after you figure the price if you bought everything yourself to do it, you would only save $10-$15 doing it yourself and then your all dirty from crawling on the ground and now you have to drive to recycling center to dispose of the old oil unless you're a neanderthal who just dumps it into the ditch hoping the neighbors dont report you to DEQ

i change my own oil but every time i do i think im not saving enough money to really make this worth it, but im a man so i change my own oil anyway.

pay almost $100 where? How many quarts? Synthetic or regular? What kind of filter?

Well let’s see, on my Porsche 996 it takes around 9.5 quarts full synthetic plus a synthetic filter. I do it myself and it cost me around $60 so I can only imagine what quickie lube will charge. On my Sequoia it uses around 8 quarts and cost me around $60 like the 996 because I have to buy 2 5quart jugs. So again I’d assume if a normal 5 quart synthetic oil change is $50-60 the 996 and Sequoia would easily be around $100. You chumps are paying $37 for the worst oil money can buy. A synthetic oil change is easily $50-$150 it all depends on how much oil you need.

I pay $35 and get my oil changed and tires rotated. Can't do it that cheap myself. And they provide drinks while I'm waiting.

walmart charges like $10 over cost of oil/filter for synthetic. i can't change mine fast enough to justify the added cost and time to do it myself.

Clean up is easy - I just pour it all down the drain at the end of my driveway when I’m done.

Anytime Fitness charges you $50 for a plastic key. That’s way worse.

I'm usually an advocate for DIY car maintenance but oil changes are usually more cost-effective when paid for at a quick-lube joint.

Why pay $18 for 5 quarts of 5w30 and $8 for a quality filter when you could pay $6 less for all of that and to have them do it for you while you sit on your arse?

I’ve never paid more than $40 and it includes a tire rotation.

I priced everything and since I get synthetic oil I won't really save a whole lot by doing it at home and then I'll have to dispose of the oil. With a free tire rotation it then negates any savings on the oil change itself. I only change the oil once a year.

I can tell which of these Baw wannabes drive a Corolla.

Any 1/2 ton truck oil change with a name brand synthetic and a good filter will cost you at least $50 even if you do it yourself. Don't even get started on Diesels. When I had the baw250 it was close to $90 with synthetic rotella and a motorcraft filter.

Not Mobile 1 Synthetic. To all you guys that pay 40 at quickie lube, congratulations on putting recycled sludge in your vehicle and half those places will not replace the filter every time. Hope you plan on trading sooner than later!!

Are people really too lazy to unscrew a cap and dump the oil in a hole??

Who's spending $100 for an oil change is a better question.

One of the moving company reps that bid on Mom's move last week was saying up here in AR the do-it-yourself types now have disposal problems as no one will accept the used oil anymore. He said Pep Boys, Wal-Mart, the chain change places like Jiffy Lube , etc., won't take it even for cash payment.
