Let us not forget that these places keep records which are then reported on the Carfax as well as not voiding warranties which give these places a leg-up.

Got mine changed the other day. Dude sold me on the platinum oil cleaning and change. $122 total. Only took an hour and a half. Hell of a deal and the truck has never ridden better.

It's worth it for me to get my oil changed at the local lube joint.

Now if I can just figure out why my air filter and wiper blades keep needing to be replaced!

I used to drive a car that took ten quarts of oil. It was cheaper for me to have it done than to buy the oil, filter and do it myself.

What happened with wiper blades being so expensive? The cheapest set I could find was $50,a guy in front of me was buying at set for $75 and said they were worth it.

I pay about $40. They check all my fluids and fill them, vacuum my vehicle and it takes 15-20 min. Well worth it.

Changing your own oil is messy then u have to dispose of it. I buy my own oil and filter and give the guy at the oil place $20 to change it.

It saves about $40 to do it that way and no mess.

Are people really too lazy to unscrew a cap and dump the oil in a hole??

I think it’s more the getting under the car and taking the old filter off that is the problem.

I changed my own for years but I just don't feel like going through the hassle of having to dispose of it etc to save $40 per year.

AND, they will do a free "fluid-check" anytime you want if you have one of their stickers on your windshield. They will fill what needs filling and check your tire pressure, as well. All of this is a net benefit if your vehicle begins acting up, especially if it's a day when the weather is not nice.

Yeah such a hassle to walk to the end of your driveway and dump it down the storm drain

While i think 100 is pretty high, i have a hard time believing all the people in this thread paying less than 40 bucks

i tend to pay around 65-70 for a V8 truck using synthetic blend, includes tire rotation

the 5-minute places tend to charge quite a bit too, for the convenience I assume

It’s only a racket if you’re dumb and let it be. If you buy their filters and wipers, etc.

Your driveway is probably on a slope, just unscrew the drain plug and let the oil trickle down there on its own.

I drive an F250(insert baw/truck nut/plant jokes) and do all my own service, an oil change at a shop will usually run around $120, it takes 3.25 gallons(13 quarts) of oil. I do it myself and save $50 each time. Every other oil change I do fuel filters & air filter too, a shop to do oil/oil filter/fuel filters/air filter is usually $200+, I do it all on my own for about $110. The entire process takes me about 15 minutes at most.

1. I use synthetic since I drive a lot of city miles.
2. I would rather the oil be disposed of properly than to dump it out back.
3. The place near my house also checks on everything else (cabin air filter, brakes, etc.)

To me it's worth the convenience. (Plus I get coupons in the mail every month)
