You do realize millennials are ages 31 to 46 now?

In any case, professional jobs, corporate positions, and business services are up against some fairly strong headwinds and hiring has definitely been choppy the last 2 years.

I was watching an episode of Beverly Hillbillies the other night and Mr. Drysdale was replacing the entire accounting department with computers, to the ire of Jane Hathaway. A sitcom but reflective of changes back then.

Change is constant.

I think if someone is relying on the traditional job boards, it is. Also, so many young entrants do not know how to write an effective resume. But a lot of job postings are very specific now, so writing a general resume as a wide cast net is working against them in that they will not get responses. You HAVE to somewhat tailor your resume to the job you are applying for.....Indeed is bad for that.

Hell no....there are 17 year old welders and electricians making $6 million a year. Social media is chock bock full of stories of plumbers being bllionaires and HVAC techs being gazillionaires....and there are 75 trillion unfilled trade jobs paying $9 million a year open as we speak....

I have a friend his boys are 22 and 25, they are awesome at this. THey will pick up a phone, a solder iron, a laptop, whatever you need. But he and his wife parented them really well. They did not put them in front of a tv for 12 years. Does this highlight a problem in parenting?

Does this highlight a problem with college? I was not your typical student in K12 or college so I don't really know how it works, but I feel like the education system in general teaches kids to be professional students, not workers. As grades continue to inflate and trophies continue to abound, it only gets worse.

I got most of my work ethic from side jobs and projects at home, if I relied on the education system I'd be screwed.

This is not a rant against education, I have multiple degrees. But I think the format and execution is way off. I could've learned most of that stuff from a printed PDF, taken a quiz, and worked a job half-days in high school, college, grad school.

I have a business but I am looking for a job. I’m very qualified but I am getting rejection letters like crazy. I think most job positions are posted due to requirements and that they are filled already. Looking for work as an adult is brutal.

That's basically it. Each job I've ever had post college and even my internships in college were because I knew people. When I applied to the job I have currently on LinkedIn, there were over 100 applicants within a couple days of it being posted. I had worked with the hiring manager in submitting bids to him when I was at my previous company and reached out to him after submitting my resume just to shine a little more light on my application. I had an interview with them the next day.

I applied for a job during the summer as a dishwasher at Longhorn Steakhouse.

alot depends on the industry you are in and where you are located

but i will say HR and the auto scanning of resumes to see if it matches are a huge problem.

for example, my current job, I was recruited by a recruiter for the company, I tailored my resume to the exact job listing, I have the exactly every single thing they were looking for.....yet my resume was trashed even after the recruiter told HR. Only reason I got hired is because my current boss would review all rejected resumes for the position just to double check.

when he saw mine he asked HR why would they ever reject a resume from someone with exact qualifications and there answer was...dunno, that is the system that does that, not us.

essentially incompetent HR people are a huge huge problem right now.
