Worked pretty closely with BLS people over the years. While the revisions seem complicated or deliberately misleading to someone unfamiliar with statistics/data collection the BLS did a great job.
The government is good at collecting data.

You're 100% right, but it's pretty easy to avoid the bullshite: don't read the main timeline/feed or whatever it's called. Keep your resume on the site, accept whatever invitations/connections you want, and spend ~1 minute per week checking for updates to see if you've been contacted by a potential employer.

There's really not much downside to simply keeping an active account. Though I suppose the same could be said about Facebook. I deleted my FB account around 2020 because cancel culture was ramping up and I was prone to drunk-posting my politics, and the risk wasn't worth the ever diminishing reward.

If one is looking for a job, I agree.

I'm actually at a place that I can see myself retiring at. I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but after many years of being at the wrong places, mostly due to cultures that were toxic, created by people who didn't truly know how to lead people --- or appreciate them, I've found a place that actually is the opposite, and we are incredibly valued, appreciated, and respected.

I can relate. I love where I work and would hate leaving. Unfortunately, due to the company size and structure, the financial benefits of me leaving increases a bit every year, so I keep the Linkedin account going.

I am trying to figure out where is the economy is bad. Every shopping center is always full of cars. I see this all dsy long. I keep asking where iare they getting the money in this horrible economy.

I simply did a cost-benefit analysis and decided that the limited enjoyment that I was getting from the site wasn't worth the risk of me posting something a bit risque that could get me in trouble. I do think that "social media" in general gets a bad rap when (not directing this at you) in fact it's usually people who cant control themselves who make social media worse than it needs to be ...... I tend to have the discipline to keep from posting controversial things online (the fact that I quit drinking a long time ago helps) .. ultimately I think social media is like automobiles, in that it's a double-edged sword.. a car can be a way to go to work, to travel and visit family, et al.. but if you've had a few drinks, it can turn into a 3,000 lb weapon ... similarly, socials can be an effective way to keep in touch, to share family photos, even to market your business, or to sell second hand items (FB Marketplace).. BUT if someone's prone to oversharing or is generally a miserable person, they can turn socials into place to bully people, or to - in some cases- ruin their own lives wth things they post .


In both cases I think it's undisciplined people who turn it into a net negative rather than a positive .
