Is the job market "bad"?

Anecdotal, but everyone I see on LinkedIn with that insufferable “open to work” tag on their picture are the ones who constantly complain they’ve submitted 800 resumes in the past 3 months with 5 responses, 2 rejections and 3 “ghosts” and often want to be “lead of x”, “head of y”, or are a “thought leader | visionary | trail blazer”.

TLDR plenty of good jobs out there, supply of good workers is the problem

There’s plenty of great jobs available for people who are willing to work hard, aren’t entitled, and are willing to prove their worth. Unfortunately there’s a supply shortage of those workers.

I have been getting tons of recruiters on LinkedIn trying to contact me. Its mostly field work and doesnt pay what I make on oil and gas but its still good money. And looks much less stressful. I dont log on but the notifications hit my email

I can’t speak to others. I am not in a good place with my job search. I have an at least moderately impressive level of experience and have shown great career progression and leadership but I am hearing crickets for the most part other than a few recruiters reaching out on fringe jobs. Several things at play:

1. A lot of other people as well are laid off. At least in my city I know several hundred were. So the job market is incredibly fierce.

2. I don’t think companies want to take chances on people. They’re just letting open positions sit out there. Listen, you may be apples and I come from oranges but at least let me try to explain to you why I think I can do great things for apples.

3. I at this point don’t want to regress in my career. Still have income for awhile so I want lateral at least. Just not many jobs that are easy laterals.

4. My educational background is non-traditional. Shouldn’t matter. I have experience. But a lot of jobs in my field want advanced degrees.im fricked there. I have no motivation why to go back to school and do a shite job for a shite degree I don’t care about to do a job I have already done at a high level.

Job markets bad for people who want to work from home and play with themselves all day. Mainly corporate do nothing types. However if you're willing to actually work for a living literally everybody is looking for help.

I get so many recruiters reaching out for SDE management roles I had to delete LinkedIn. The job market is red hot in tech we get hundreds of resumes every month and only interview 3-4% through ATS that make it past HR.

The only person that I know of in the job market recently got a new job pretty quick.

He was let go from a smaller company like 2 weeks ago in a sales position. He starts working for General Dynamics as a supply chain manager on the 15th. He has a strong resumee and is in his mid 40s.

I was pretty surprised he found a (better) job very quickly. He even helped me cut grass this weekend because he was bored.
