We have freedom of choice, not freedom from consequences.
Make better choices and don’t blame others when you don’t.

We don’t need our benevolent government telling tax paying Americans what to do or how to live our lives.
When the government got involved in medical care, government gave itself the right to decide how you live your life in order to lower its costs.

I've never heard a more monstrously concieved statement spoken on this website, Political Talk included.
Terrible and regressive logic.

No one gives a damn. I don't care if some random person kills themselves on sugary foods, nor do I care if they get lung cancer from chain smoking reds.
We all have one life to live and some people make poor choices. Nothing to fret about. Just make your own decisions.
In theory, we shouldn’t give a shite about what any other random person eats/smokes/drinks, it does impacts everyone, because taking care of fat asses impact the cost of healthcare for everyone.
That said, I’m not for policing that shite. The fat asses/unhealthy that make poor choices need to take responsibility for those shitty decisions.

Does second hand fast food hurt anyone?

The Adman that recommended adding the "s" to the term fast food is a marketing genius.

Ultra processed food is way worse.

Sugary cereal, soda, candy, chips, etc etc. If you're going down this route with fast food then close 1/3 of the grocery isles as well.
I'm old enough to remember the backlash Michelle Obama got for trying to make school lunches more healthy as a way to combat child obesity.
Parents would send their kids to school with Mt. Dew and junk food out of spite.

Get harmful chemicals out of the food chain. This isn’t about banning consumers from buying things, it’s about regulating industry practices that most people never see. Consumer bans are dumb anyway. People didn’t quit smoking because it was banned; they quit because they believed it was killing them, and that belief outweighed the enjoyment. We need the same reality check with food.
I wouldn’t care if people made bad choices, except for one problem: healthcare is now one of the largest expenses in the country, and we’re all paying for it. Once everyone else is footing the bill, those choices stop being purely personal.
And yes, SNAP should be restricted. Taxpayers are buying food for other people, and it’s reasonable to demand that money be spent on real, nutritious food, not soda, junk, and ultra-processed garbage that drives obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

NO, fast food is not responsible for obesity. You didn't see tons of obese people in the 60's, 70's or even 80's. There is nothing specifically wrong about fast food. Yes it isn't the healthiest thing in the world with the preservatives and others things put in them. But neither is some of the crap they put in city water systems. People still ate fast food 30, 40, 50, 60 years ago. The issue is people are eating that crap everyday and never cooking at home. Nothing wrong with eating a big mac a couple of times a month or maybe even once a week. It is not difference than someone who drinks alcohol or beer to excess everyday. Its fast food its not intended for everyday.

Look at most well known grocery store items. Bioengineered and full of junk ingredients. Evangeline Maid Bread to Yoplait Yogurt. It’s everywhere.

You should be able to eat fast outside of public places or in your home like smoking cigarettes.

No, of course we can't ban fast foods, hell, we couldn't even ban cigarettes. Yes, a lot of the worst parts of fast foods have made it into the groceries stores, take a look at the frozen food aisles, it used to be mostly frozen vegetables, now it's got a large section of frozen fast food.
Freedom of choice doesn't have to be a suicide pact, in spite of what RFK Jr. is trying to do, if want our kids eating healthier foods, any change has to be consumer driven.
It has become too easy, and we've all done it many times, it's after work, you're tired, the kids are hungry, no one feels like cooking, just stop and pick up some Cane's or McD's and everyone is happy. But, is it best for the children, that is the dicussion we need to have.

I’ve never really thought of the issue with cigarettes as being a moral one. Inhaling burnt particulates simply does nothing for your body. Other than making you feel good, it’s zero upside.
Fast food has some nutritional value and if you eat proper portions in moderation and have an otherwise healthy lifestyle, you won’t have any negative consequences.
I think I remember reading somewhere that 60% of adults have tried at least one cigarette and 20% of adults are addicted to them. If every kid had a 1/3 chance of becoming addicted to McDonald’s fries to the point where they had to eat them multiple times a day, then yeah, treat fast food like cigarettes.
