Are you sure about that?
As long as you aren't trying to use a plastic straw or tell a 6 year old he can't cut off his wiener you should still be ok.

you have to install window units in your windows and then take them back down when the electricity comes back on.
You dont have to do a full install....at least I never do. Just use some duct tape and cardboard to cover the gaps. Usually takes about 15 minutes.

The whole point of AC is it's a heat pump. It pumps heat from inside to the outside. If the condenser side is inside too, you're just pumping heat from one side of the room to the other, and adding the heat from the inefficiency of the unit.

Just buy a portable AC unit that has a hose that vents out the window.
Little known fact. The first portable a/c unit was a window unit. The person put wheels on it and designed an exhaust manifold on the rear for venting outside. There was a need for them in server rooms. Still used in them today. It worked well and was the start of the portable a/c rental business. The person then had one designed specifically for portability and efficiency. Real portable units look like this and are way more powerful than what you'd buy at a big box store. The woman that created the first one became extremely rich.

Poor quality bait or just retarded

no i wouldn't do what you suggested.
try one of these. it still has an exhaust and you have to empty water from time to time, but a bit easier to 'install' than traditional window units

Installing a window a/c is fairly simple to do.

I have never been impressed with the portable units.
The main issue with the single hose versions is they are pulling in the makeup air through every crack in your house. The 2 hose versions pull the air in from outside and vent back outside so they are much more efficient overall. If someone has an one hoser you can actually use some rigid foam (either pink Owens Corning or duct board and silver foil tape for duct work) and build a plenum around the intakes and but another hose and make yourself a 2 hoser. Depending on the temp outside it would make it significantly more efficient. The energy efficiency isn't as much of a deal during a storm but cooling more of the house is. Someone else , mentioned the exhaust hose gets hot and radiates heat back into the house. You can use towels or bubble wrap to insulate it. Unsightly but in a power outage IDGAF what the A/C looks like as long as my balls are sweating.

AC units blow cold out the front and hot from the back. It might work inside if you set the unit to heat and turn it around.

The better solution is to skip the window unit and get an indoor portable unit.
We got this one the morning of Francine and it worked PERFECTLY in our 255 sqft living room(we draped a king size sheet over the threshold to kitchen). The link says it's 250 sqft but that's Home Depot Glitch. It's actually 350sqft for the 8000 btu. $399 at the Home depot
Highly recommend as we never once had to drain it in 3.5 days of use(about 6 hrs a day).
Comes with vent and kit to put on almost any window without any tools(just duct tape if you don't want to waste the weather seal they give you).
Toshiba 8k btu up to 350sqft Portable AC

Some of the smaller window units are made to install and uninstall easily. If one isn't enough just buy a couple.
I bought 2 this past summer for $160 each from Lowes. I have a big open floor plan home with 18-20 foot ceilings in the living area. Set them up on opposite wall/windows with a couple fans when we had a power outage and they worked great.
Short answer: No you cant use a window unit inside your home.

Please explain how you run a window unit if the electricity is out? And if you are running a generator just run your AC. Unless your generator is only big enough to operate your coffee maker.

I think that's why they call them window units.

I hope you don't have a driver's license.

You trying to make it rain in your house? Because this is how you make it rain in your house. Ditto about ruining your wood floors.
