Is it common for the 28-35 age demographic to be so mentally weak?

Had dinner with a niece last night who recently moved back to town for a well paying job in her field of study. She informed me that she is currently looking for other jobs because she is intimidated by her direct report. The only thing of substance I got from her was that it’s because her direct report is an older lady who wears nice clothes and “about a half a million dollars” worth of jewelry every day.
Is this generation so weak that they not only care what others wear but let that influence their career path? I know that I’m old and have been out of the work environment for a few years but it blew my mind.

It's always useful to extrapolate the conditions of one story for one person to an entire group that numbers in the millions.

If you think that demographic is mentally weak…. What do you think of the teenagers these days? Kinda scary, they’re all a bunch of pussies who will quit at the first sign of adversity

I also think that group is mentally weak. However, I think the age group under them is much stronger.

Zero fear for “looking for other jobs” but scared of her boss.
Both of those are inverse from what they should be.

Personally I am glad that so many of my peers kinda suck. I am 30 and I really don’t think I’m too bright, but I’ve advanced a good bit by just… actually doing work lol.

What age group are you in (I’m 52)?

You seem triggered by an 8 year window of age

The focus on mental health has been a double-edged sword, some people are getting actual help while others are self-diagnosing and making it their entire personality.

What doesn’t kill you makes you weaker.
One of three Great Untruths that Jonathan Haidt unearthed in Coddling.
Schools no longer teach moral/character formation. Objective truth is not upheld or promoted. The result is aimless floundering by young people who attempt to find meaning in things that aren’t stabilizing. It’s never ending chaos.

Yes, but how about we also start blaming parents for this?

Maybe I'm stupid, but if my direct supervisor looks that successful in her position in the company that she can afford nice clothes and fine jewelry, I just may want to stay put and see how that career path can work for me----Not that I'd spend it in that way, but probably the supervisor is making good money.

I had the thought the other day that most of us Gen X latchkey kids came out pretty well equipped to manage the crap life hands out because we were often left to fend for ourselves. The younger generations more often had a parent there to handle any little challenge that came their way and you see the results in a generation of people that fold at the first sign of adversity.

Not only useful but typically is incredibly accurate

If your niece was a nephew instead I’d recommend trying to get to know that individual and how to obtain the same status.
Women operate differently though.

The most mentally weak demo the last week were boomers melting over the stock market

Sounds like your niece is just a wuss. I’m 30 and if someone I worked under did that I’d be motivated that I could do the same.
