re: Costco>Sams

Costco for me. My local Sam’s has been overrun by the dindus. I would prefer to dodge the oblivious Asian women at Costco, plus the food court is better.

My opinion is worthless and Mingo will confirm that, but anyone that’s an “accountant” and over 28-30 and not a CPA I immediately question. I’m sure I’m not the only one. IMO if you want to ever possibly be hired by non Accountants like as a controller of CFO of a small business, you should absolutely get it.

This. My first assumption of an “accountant” that doesn’t have their CPA is that either they are too lazy to put in the work or too stupid to pass. Yes, I know there are exceptions, but that’s the assumption and I’m not hiring you as anything higher than a senior analyst if you don’t have a CPA.
Definitely not a waste and you haven’t been in one spot long enough to be pigeonholed. Been in the game 20+ years and bounced between financial accounting/reporting and internal audit/controls roles. Thoughts:

1. Having done financial statement audit and having Big 4 gives you the opportunity to go into a financial reporting role.
2. Your current role in internal audit gives you the audit/controls option as well, and as others have commented controls skills will always be in demand.
3. You seriously need to get out of Louisiana to open up career opportunities and increase your earning potential. The problem is with your skill set you really need to be where there are lots of corporate headquarters because that’s where the financial reporting and audit teams are usually based, and there just aren’t that many companies based in Louisiana. Potentially you could eventually move into a plant/refinery finance manager role staying in Louisiana, but you would probably need to have some staff accountant/analyst experience first.

Yup. I stand because my arse is numb from sitting in those crappy airplane seats with no padding.
Driving while looking at your phone.

Never. Cigs are trashy and the smoke is annoying AF

This is why drinking will never be shunned the same way smoking is. If someone smokes it immediately bothers every nonsmoker around them because they have to smell the smoke. Unless someone is sloppy drunk or spills their drink on someone else, drinking doesn’t immediately impact the people around the drinker.

re: Will you ever remarry?

Posted by BillyOceans11 on 8/24/25 at 3:05 pm to
Not quite to your age (mid-40s), but I can’t see myself ever remarrying. The family court system is too biased against men and the risks are too great. My hope is that by the time I am your age I will have made up what I lost in the divorce and be in a good position to retire.

The dealings I still have with the ex are as much drama as I want to deal with at this point.
As a cyclist I say she was intentionally impeding traffic and got what she deserved.

I always try to avoid busy roads. Being legally right doesn’t really matter if you are dead.
10 min grace period, then their crap is going on the table

Semi-related, how so many jobs that used to be teenager jobs now don’t hire under 18. You really need to be 18 and have a HS diploma to work at H-E-B?
Grant by Ron Chernow was a fantastic read. I was never a fan of Grant (damn yankee) but his story is fascinating, to go from resigning from the Army in disgrace to leading the Union forces and ultimately being president.
A couple of years ago at McDonald’s in Saudi Arabia the menu was similar but there were a few unique items. Two I tried:

McArabia Chicken - basically a McChicken on pita bread instead of a bun.
Chicken Mac - Big Mac with chicken patties instead of beef (I feel like I saw this here a few months ago but it was new to me when I saw it in KSA)
For me I think it is how the scamdemic exposed that so many protective norms we assumed to be solidly entrenched suddenly disappeared. Prior to COVID would you have thought:

1) The government could restrict the free movement of law-abiding citizens.
2) You could lose your job or be prevented from traveling on an airplane for refusing to be injected with an untested vaccine.
3) If you weren’t fired outright that your employer could put protocols and restrictions in place based on your vaccination status that effectively disclosed to everyone a personal healthcare decision.
4) That your employer could charge you extra for your health coverage solely based on your vaccination status.
5) That you could be prevented from being with a loved one in their final moments due to quarantine restrictions.
6) That you could be forced by government mandate to wear a face diaper.
7) That the government could prevent you from going to church or from other lawful assemblies (but of course if you loot and burn cities in the name of protest that is okay).

COVID was a wake up call that our rights can be taken whenever TPTB find it expedient to do so. That will take decades for many to forget.

My youngest ended up at Miss State because LSU waited forever to accept her.

This was my experience almost 30 years ago except I held out for LSU. I had full ride offer in hand from Miss State in October but didn’t hear anything from LSU until February.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Miss State except when they play LSU.
Absolutely hate the phone. I never answer unknown calls and do everything I can to avoid making calls as well. I have stopped doing business with companies because I couldn’t service my account online and had to call them.

I have a dedicated Google Voice number I give to most people and businesses that goes straight to voicemail. The number of people who have my real phone number is probably less than 50.

This is the only exception. If I’m just going to the next exit, and I can see the exit, I will drive on the shoulder at a slow speed to safely exit.

Chips come in so many varieties. Doritos would not last, but some random “healthier” corn chip will linger in half bag stale limbo for a month

True. Doritos we will get through about half the bag. The last few bags of Lays potato chips I threw out unopened.
Things that often go to waste in my house:

Spinach - just can never get through the whole container
Clementines - feels like every time there is one in the pack that goes moldy a few days after I buy them and I throw all of them out.
Chips - sound good when I’m at the store but just don’t end up eating them.

Did that drive a couple of years ago. Took me a little over 5 hours to get from downtown Miami to Key West. Absolutely beautiful drive, though.

Only thing I don’t like about H-E-B is it is always too damn crowded. Even with the wide aisles feel like there are oblivious people everywhere. If you are just running in for a couple of things it is a royal PITA.
