Cruises are for the newlywed, the overfed, and the nearly dead. I do not understand the appeal of being on a boat with all those people for that long. Then dock at a mini America to buy shite made in China.

The only one we've ever taken was a 3 day Disney Cruise when our oldest was turning 6. It was very well organized and not overcrowded. My parents used to go on them more often, but it was in places like Tahiti and Hawaii. They would fly halfway around the world to get on a boat. Not my cup of tea, but I can somewhat see why they did it. Sort of like island hopping, except you're just cruising at night while you sleep. After being crammed in a plane for a 10 hour flight, the last thing I would want to do is get on a boat with a tiny cabin.

If the years-past near constant news reports of food poisonings didn't kill off the industry then nothing will.

There are a lot of “normal” people who absolutely love cruises, mostly retirees. I’m baffled by it, but lots of people I know take multiple cruises a year.

Wife's mom and dad are nice people but ask them to pick a restaurant and they are so indecisive that everyone will starve. Can't be ready to go anywhere on time.

I'm personally convinced a pretty significant portion of people that love to take cruises are people that simply cannot plan or make decisions. All they have to do is get on the boat and most other decisions are made for them for 1 to 2 weeks.

I think in long term the cruise industry will hurt once the boomers and retirees die off. A lot of these boomers take 12+ cruises a year and the cruise lines rely on those types. Who’s going to replace them. This generation? Young people are hurting financially these days. I don’t think they’ll be taking multiple cruises a year once they get 60+.
I don’t think all cruise line will be affected such as Carnival, but your higher end ones definitely will.

I have done 4 Viking cruises so far and going on number 5 the end of June, going to the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway. They are awesome.

My girlfriend went on one or maybe a couple in middle/high school with her friend and friends family. She is always hyping them up and wants to go on more.

After learning about the weave pulling and what not I’m now having second thoughts…

You're on to something

I think many people dont have good networks of friends to know where the good vacay spots are. So a cruise is indeed a pre-packaged "solution" to that vacation itch and does accommodate well for people are aren't capable of doing much planning

Had I bought Vikings Cruise stock 100% ago like I was thinking about probably but since I didn’t, no

My wife and I both retired recently. We've been thinking about taking one of those Viking river cruises through Germany. I don't think we'd have to worry about any weave-pulling fights on one of those cruises.

Just started my 4th cruise. All have been on Seabourn. This year we started in Lisbon and will make stops in Gibraltar, Motril, Cartagena, Menorca, St Tropez, Portofino and Genoa. The ships are smallish (450-600) passengers.

I haven’t gone on a cruise in about 15 years but will be doing a Mediterranean one in September. Years ago I did a couple of Caribbean cruises, a Panama Canal, and an Alaskan cruise. The secret is not to go on cheap ones. I could care less about how big the water slide is, the amount of buffet food or other stuff the ships market themselves for. I always picked the cruises for the ports. It is a nice way to preview areas you have never been to decide if you want to go back. I have never been to Europe so decided to get a preview of Barcelona, Nice, Florence, Rome, Athens, Ephesus, etc for a decent price. At the end of the cruise I’ll spend $60 to fly from Athens back to Rome for a few days. The $1000 airfare over there and back keeps the Walmart crowd away.

I'm the complete opposite. The ports are just lagniappe. You spend the vast majority of the time on the ship, so not paying attention to what differnet ships offer is a mistake IMO.

No.

Will it not be available to the poors and ne'er do wells? A lot less available since prices will likely be rising as they obviously should be to cover costs of quality food and accommodations.

It is possible to explore the world without getting shitfaced and non-stop junk food grazing.

Good.

Less cruises. Fewer cruise lines. Make it more expensive and, frankly, more exclusive. I’m all for free markets and healthy competition to an extent, but we don’t need the Spirit Airlines of the sea, if you catch my drift.
