That’s Econ not accounting. Economics is useless outside of academia.
Actually the part covering game theory and the like is interesting

Tell what? Those are my interests

Accounting should be taught starting in 9th grade.

What ever class teaches you to lie about your plane

This should be a breeze by the time you get to college. ISDS 3115 or whatever it was that taught project management was incredibly useful and can be used in any real life situation.
I also found my professor's name for that one hilarious. William W Williams. Bastard never would tell us what the middle name was, but I suspect.

Imagine if you not only knew how to do accounting as job, but used that combined with Econ courses to study financial statements and industries for investing, or for some people, you would at least know how to balance a checkbook
I'm not arguing for financial ignorance - I'm arguing against ignorance of the things that make humanity worthwhile.

Sure but no matter what you do master public speaking. I can't begin to tell you how important this is. Being able to communicate comfortably and confidently with 2, 5, 20, 50 or hundreds or more people at a time is unbelievably valuable.

i think you missed the word useful in the thread title. I'm a big fan of history, and in no way has it ever advanced my life

Would you still be in the same situation you are today if all you knew was what the news told you?

If I didn't know about the Treaty of Potsdam, yes I am pretty sure I would be in exactly the same position I am now

That's not what I asked, though.
Posted on 4/15/20 at 3:38 pm to HempHead
What you asked is irrelevant. No matter what your field of study, it is based on history. That is entirely different from taking a history class or getting a history degree

Public speaking, English and several other liberal arts classes are far more useful than accounting. I’m starting to think most people answering with accounting never took an accounting class in college

My public speaking class and all of my English classes were a joke.

English, philosophy, history, logic, etc are all far more useful in everyday life

If someone can write and think clearly, I can teach them what debits and credits are on the job, if necessary. If they can't communicate, they're of no use to me, no matter what other skills they have.

PHIL 1021 Introduction to Logic is the most useful class I have ever taken in my life.

The accounting classes I took didn’t really teach me anything about personal finance.
