I graduated from A&M with an accounting degree. In my estimation it can really help if you understand some level of accounting and P&L statements but honestly you do not need a formal education in accounting to understand this.

Yes I agree with you, writing skills, speaking skills, etc... are far more important than accounting prowess much less a degree in it. Unless of course you are trying to be an accountant or have a career in auditing or forensic auditing.

100%

99% of people do not need a class to learn how to manage their money. There’s not much to it for the vast majority of people.

I'm a CPA, so I think it's fair to say I took plenty of accounting classes in College.

While extremely helpful in the financial world, I'd say it isn't overly helpful to the everyday person. Public speaking, capable writing, and critical reasoning/logical thinking would be the most important IMO.

FWIW, many trade school skills are also much more practical for the average person than understanding GAAP or cost accounting.

That’s Econ not accounting. Economics is useless outside of academia. They brain wash students with Keynesian theory and don’t bother exposing the flaws or other theories such as Austrian or MMT.

I think you just took bad Econ classes.

This. Communicating effectively is an invaluable skill in all facets of life.

The best education is a well-rounded one.

I majored in accounting and majority of what we learned doesn’t help the average person with personal accounting, financial responsibility, or taxes. It’s basically just classifying assets, liabilities and organizing information for companies and reading income statements.

English, philosophy, history, logic, etc are all far more useful in everyday life

You can't think of a single time a knowledge of history allowed you to recognize fact patterns or make analogies and apply them to your everyday life? It's an important part of critical thinking.

The credit I got for playing a sport was better. It learnt me to keep my body healthy this getting me more sexy time with the hottest of women folk. Ultimately life is about reproduction not some dumb organized maths for people to keep up with stuff. My sexiness can't be falsified. I'm too dumb to make it happen any other way than sheer buff muscle.

Anyone that owns a business should learn some basic accounting principles. The business owner should have the ability to understand a financial statement, many don’t.
