I'm your age and have a 370Z for a weekend, fair weather car. Taking it out on a sunny Saturday morning cruise is one of my great joys.

For a supposed red blooded American message board, there are a lot of dudes around here who don't seem to understand how fast and powerful Teslas are.
I’m no Tesla hater. My wife’s model 3 performance is parked next to my GT500 in the garage. It’s a wonderful car. But it only does one thing well from a performance perspective and that’s 0-80. Anything else it’s anywhere from meh to quite bad.

Bought one when they first came out in 2012 and love it. Also I love having the OG model science FRS before rebranded it 86 after Toyota eliminated the scion brand. I love it and only 100k miles. But will be upgrading to. Lexus LC in 3 years. Really want a convertible and the 86 only comes hard top

Eat the cake, enjoy a glass of whiskey, spend time with family and friends, and buy the roadster... You ONLY LIVE ONCE. The clock is ticking...

I did it. Easily one of the least destructive ways to get through your midlife crisis.

S2000 team.
Small. Quick as you need. Honda. Soft top. Like 8500 red line. Turns better than almost anything on the road. Stick shift. Very reasonable price for a low mileage one. Low maintenance. Begs for abuse.

Not as irrational a decision as it used to be.
Nowadays a sports car is cheaper than a truck.
And you can justify it better than an engineer buying a fully loaded, lifted Dually to drive from the house to the office, and you won't look as douchy as the 5'8" engineer climbing into a vehicle whose floor boards are shoulder height.

I bought a Corvette Grand Sport in my 20s. Turns out, it's just a car. I'm over it.

I’ve had Z3, Z4, 911 turbo cab and now a 911 GTS cab. Loved all of them. They are fun cars to drive esp if you enjoy speed and handling. Not necessarily practical but sometimes you need something in life that’s just fun.

I'm not a sports car guy but if you can afford it comfortably and you and your wife are excited do it!

I got a 350z as my everyday ride around 2007. I thought I was cool until I realized even the cashier at my neighborhood Circle K could afford one.
My old boss bought a Supra and turbo’d the frick out of it. I always told him he was going to die in that thing, but he provided me wrong by crashing an airplane he built (and dying).

Get an old British car. If you're somewhat mechanical, they are way more fun to drive than a newer Jap car
Would love to.
We want accessible fun. Not ready for a project car yet to be honest.
Any old British car IS a project car
.
I know this because my husband has had four at one time and is down to two right now. (One is still not anywhere near complete, most of it is hanging from the garage ceiling.) (The other is having a carburetor problem and has had for several months and has stumped several folks who really understand those cars.)
If you go for a fun car, get the one with the most safety features. There are so many idiots on the road: drugs, drunks, phone addicts, etc. and you really want to walk (or at least hobble away) when the oncoming car forgets which lane he or she should be driving in.

We bought an e30 convertible on a whim and it's our favorite date night and kick around car on the weekends.
Absolutely love it.

u obviously don't grasp the idea of a sports car.
I live six miles from where I-10 goes to 75MPH. I don't have a sports car, but a 405HP Explorer ST. Hit the sunroof and the gas pedal.

I had a convertible sports car for a couple of years. Loved it, thinking of buying another.
But talk to your insurance agent first, and see what owning it will do to your rates. Mine was very expensive to insure.
