One of the things I enjoy about owning a sports car is getting it out on a weekend with some buddies (and wifes) and cruise to a nearby town and check out a new restaurant, a festival, a club rally or take a whole weekend and see what attractions are there. There is always something going on in the spring and summertime. It can be more than just driving.

Why not if you have the means? I just took delivery of a 2026 M3. Goodwood Green with Tartufo leather. Won’t put many miles on it - weekend car mostly.

Back in 83 I bought a 81 Datsun 280ZX Turbo T-top. My absolute favorite car I have ever owned to this day.

2 seater
5 speed manual, if you were in 5th gear you were in violation of the speed limit anywhere in the US!
Turbo, no need to downshift, just mash it
Cockpit style instrumentation

I had an Escort radar detector and when I would drive down the interstate at night people would convoy behind me. Car was an absolute road bullet. The car below was like mine except the pic is not a Turbo

‘90 911 Cab bought about 10 yrs ago in my mid 40s. Love it. Qualifies as classic for registration/insurance purposes.

Last week I would have said money spent on sports cars is a waste. All you really need is reliable and comfortable transportation. That coming from someone who has owned a Camaro, Nissan Z, Toyota Supra, Mustang, Alfa Romeo Spider and two Porsches and whose now daily driver is a comfy old Toyota Avalon. But it's my birthday tomorrow and - well, what the heck - now parked in my garage as of Friday is a third Porsche.

There is nothing wrong with wasting money on sports cars/hot rods/collectibles.

I despise people that look at cars at just a mode of transportation. America and passion for automobiles should always be a thing.

S2000 Honda

I have been a motorhead all my life- raced at Bonneville, did some off road stuff in the Midwest, rallied in Mauritius, and had the opportunity once to be some of the money (a very small part of the money) behind one of Antron Brown’s dragsters.

One of the biggest smiles I ever had behind the wheel was in a 281,000 mile S2000. Stupid, stupid reliable. Mucho Mucho fun.

They have a cult following, so if you decide fun car ownership isn’t what you thought it was going to be, some guy who has a last name like Chung or Fong will gladly pay you for it.

That, or a C6 Vette- once you get past the Cavalier radio and such, C5 or C6 Vettes are badass- and no, you don’t need jorts or Skechers to have one.
