Lots of folks on ESPN overdramatize terrible situations such as this to let you know how righteous and virtuous they are. And, as you have noted, this often comes with over-the-top rhetoric.

Agreed. The ESPN coverage of this was so over the top dramatic. I get they were in shock but they took it a bit far with the life on the line stuff.

They get paid millions to get ridiculously injured and their brains scrambled.

They kept saying THE PLAYERS decided to call the game off. This was captain obvious ESPN -no one cares-don't make division between the players & the NFL, when we finally have unity.

The unity amongst the teams was a needed change but the ESPN guys were ridiculous crying. Get back to me when firefighters, the military, cops, EMT's, First Responders, are paid millions for their risks.

Fact: there have been more kindergarten teachers who’ve died on the job than football players. Clark is a shithead.

Setting foot in NOLA is more dangerous than playing in the NFL

I mean, you had unity amongst the players, yes. But I don't have a problem with calling out the NFL for their slow handling of it IF it was in fact all on the NFL.

Give it up man. Ryan Clark referred tho those phrases as ‘cliches’ which is exactly what they are.

Both comparisons are dumb. Soldiers can’t quit. Because it’s not a game and the enemy does not stop shooting because they hit one. You have to keep fighting to live because you are still in danger.

Players are not still in danger after the whistle blows.

Of course it’s an overboard thing to say, but there will be a lot of that. A construction worker is much more likely to die in the job, same with many other jobs.

Game has to be cancelled NOW!
Season too!
If Rodger G doesn’t come out in the next 2 minutes with a statement he and the rest of the league office should be FIRED!1!1!
anyone saying this game should be finished is human scum and should be fired from their job!

Interstates are statistically the safest place to drive, especially for motorcyclists.

I expected to hear that they'd postponed the game to tonight and to give people the option of paying their ticket price into a trust fund for him or his family.

It took some searching to find that the Bills were greeted by some fans when they flew into Buffalo around ??2a.m.

Many jobs involve significant risk of injury/death. Such risk goes hand in hand with living life. The hysteria we are now seeing is a bad reflection on what we have become. Like the ridiculous response to Covid.

I think someone on the MSB said it was only an hour flight from Cincy to Buffalo, and since away teams typically fly back after the game, it would have taken longer to find somewhere to stay than to just go home.

I figure Buffalo could be staged up and ready to go if they decided to play today, but it seems unlikely. And unless they push both of their games in Week 18 back, I doubt they restart this game at all if it doesn't happen tonight.

Maybe they would play tomorrow night and push their games back to next Monday or Tuesday?

I tend to agree a bit. I could die walking into traffic in five minutes. I could've died the many times I was thrown from horses. Certain activities are much riskier, not unlike men having a much higher rate of death because they work more dangerous jobs like oil field, pipeline, police, construction, etc.

While playing elite level contact sport football is a violent game that does wear on the body in a way that being a tik toker or baker never will, those are generally soft tissue and joint issues. Even CTE only kind of generally shortens one's life by an indeterminate number of years.

But what happened to Hamlin is laughably rare. And damned good that it is. That risk is there, and the players definitely put their BODIES on the line. It's not quite like war or something, though. What we don't need to do is overreact and helicopter mom every player at every level as a result.

Listening to ESPN Radio, they played a sound bite where Ryan Clark said fans shouldn’t be over critical of players bc they “Put their lives on the line to play the game”.

What happened to the Bills player is sad, but put life on the line to voluntarily play a game for other’s entertainment for an enormous salary is going a bit far.

Yeah he’s full of shite. Go talk to some 30 year veteran linemen about putting your life on the line playing football. Or some rig hands, or some loggers, or any number of actual professions about putting your life on the line while playing football. And that’s not even getting into your firemen, policemen, or grunts in the military.
