yeah what they can use a probable cause seems pretty flimsy. One of my buddies got pulled over and the cop questioned him and his wife separately. He told the cop they went to wal mart and his wife said wal mart and some other BS. The cop tried to use their "conflicting" stories as probable cause to search their vehicle. I know I probably don't have the story 100% correct but it was along those lines.

I’ve never been asked where I was coming from but I’m always chatty and cheerful with the cops and I’ve received more warnings than tickets. Of course, these are just simple traffic stops

I haven't been pulled over in 20 years... my go to is to be friendly, remain calm, and do what they ask... works well... slip a joke or two in there, and they're usually cool as a cucumber.... never allow them to view you as a threat, and you won't have any problems

It really depends on my mood and the cop's mood. I didn't know when I was younger that I didn't have to answer them, but things were different 30 years ago. What I don't know is how I will teach my daughters to handle these situations. Its one thing when the home they will be coming home to is where I live, that's easy. Don't tell them anything except I'm on my way home, I'm heading straight there. You can't trust anyone anymore.

Most states have a law legally requiring you to identify yourself. You don't get mirandized till you are being placed under arrest .I just don't see any reason to aggravate a LEO from the get go. by refusing to answer any question/s. Basic common sense should let you know which, if any, questions could be legally dangerous to you in court. Most LEO's have mandatory body cams in use now.

In my 20s, I was driving a UHaul truck loaded with furniture and belongings back to Florida.
I got pulled over in Utah for going under the speed limit on a long, steep incline.
The officer mentioned the probable cause of "stoned people drive slow" to get another squad car to the scene and search through the UHaul for over an hour.

Only stupid people answer questions and consent to searches.
If he's asking questions it's because he's trying to build a case, why would you help him?

Probably my most memorable interaction being pulled over was a couple years ago when I was headed home from a road trip. I was running 40-ish in a 35 and about to turn into my neighborhood and had to piss BAD but my bladder knew it was close to relief. I was so focused on getting home I didn't see the cop pull up behind me until he hit the siren. I immediately pulled over, was very polite in handing over my papers. Cop asked why I didn't pull over sooner and I told him I was dying to pee and my home was 1/4 mile down that road over there.
He ran my license and plates and quickly came back to hand them to me at my window and said "go pee" with a laugh.

The official baw response is to remind the officer that you have connections and will get the ticket fixed anyway, so he's wasting his time writing the ticket and should be out there catching real criminals anyway instead of harassing the working man.

Even if I have nothing to hide I always get so nervous when they ask simple questions, my mind just goes blank and they probably get more suspicious.
