If the Texas model of state government works so well, why can't we emulate it?

Independent counties that support themselves with little involvement from the state.

Is this really the the key to Texas success? Why can't LA and other southern states create a similar model.

We have the natural resources, the universities, and the population to do it.

The simple answer is corruption and the lack of a diverse economy. La rodes or dies on the process of oil.

Historic, systemic, embedded corruption among politicians and other government officials.

And a largely uneducated and carefree population that refuses to demand change at the voting booth.

In relation to the other states, Louisiana is in the bottom five of every good category and the top five of every bad category for a reason. It’s been that way since... forever. And it’s not changing.

LA constitution requires the under-educated population to vote on changes.

What makes you think they will ever make a decision that will hurt them immediately to provide benefits for future generations?

Texas has a great economy. A great economy leads to having great jobs that attracts a workforce. That leads having citizens of the state with money. That leads to them paying their share of taxes and so forth.

Louisiana doesn't have any of those. Take into effect that the "good ole boy" system is one of the strongest in Louisiana. People won't do jack-shite till their pockets are greased. Hence why it takes a decade to pave a 100 yards of road in New Orleans.

County government in Texas have enough property tax to do stuff. Parish governments in Louisiana are very poor on average. I'm fine with eliminating income tax, reducing sales tax, and increasing property taxes to keep funds local. Didn't always believe that, but the "general fund" budget thing is obviously not working.

Texas has a lot of cheap usable land and underneath a good portion of that land is oil tat can be extracted. Also, a different mindset about"stealing money" The Texan waits until there is money in the bank before he robs it. The dumbass from Louisiana tries to rob the person going to the bank before he has his money

Half the state blames the other half for all of its problems even though they couldn’t even vote in primaries until 1940
