re: Recommendation for Anniversary Ski Trip Next Year

Whitefish, MT
Big Sky, MT
Sun Valley, ID
Jackson, WY
Telluride, CO
Avoid the crowds at CO's I-70/north central resorts, as well as Park City, UT crowds. For 10yr anniversary, go somewhere nicer and less crowded. Yall will appreciate the experience.
I would also add Whistler as an option. I know it is in Canada, but it has been the best couples trip we went to, by far. Bobsledding, Scandinavian spa, ice rooms with vodka tasting.
quote:Are you going to ski? Or are you going to enjoy the experience.
Depends what you are looking for?
Big Sky is an awesome mountain for skiing, but there isn't much else to do there. Kinda like a man's man. Big sky is a skier's ski resort.
quote:Telluride is awesome. Great town and mountain.
Big Sky, Aspen, Deer Valley and Sun Valley. Jackson is nice but it is a bit steeper then the others. Never been to Telluride but it looks absolutely awesome.
Parts are steep like Jackson. But just like Jackson there are parts of it that are fine for all levels. You can kinda make of the resort what you want.
Aspen is a bit more upscale if that's what you want (to be "around" rich people... and have lots of restaurant and shopping options). I liked snowmass mountain more than either ajax or highlands.
I find the old mining towns that happen to have ski mountains to be much better to visit than ski mountains that then built the town.

I wish I could post pictures, but i would just be all white. Zero visibility. 4 feet of powder.

50 inches at tahoe in last 48 hours.
They need to open the lifts so we can make some laps.

re: The 10 snowiest ski resorts over the next 10 days worldwide will all be in California

I posted a cost comparison in the travel board ski thread last year for most of the major resorts.
Big sky is definitely up there as one of the most expensive due to flights and lodging. It is an awesome mountain focused on skiing, but it costs.
Aspen, big sky, and telluride are most expensive.
Jackson is surprisingly cheap when you factor in the $400/pp flight credit they give you for booking through jackson hole website.
Powder mountain, snow basin, keystone, winter park, jackson hole, copper are cheapest.

Storm needs to intensify and deliver snow everywhere.
I'm seeing Utah snow pack is at lowest recorded levels in the 45 years they have been tracking it.
Woof.

Am I the only one that finds most of the winter Olympics to be insanely boring?
I like the endurance sports and races.
Can the bobsled shave off a few tenths on the way down? Will they hold up under the pressure of being in the lead?
The speed skating is awesome.
It has its own charm.
I don't give a shite about ice skating or a snowboarder spinning around 6 times.
Meh. Football is a zero sum game. Not every team can have a winning record.
Every alumnus would like his school to win.
But they have to be honest with themselves about where their school falls along the spectrum.
Power 4 have the money to try to win and can buy wins from group of 5.
Tech can not.
Does that mean they shouldn’t want to win? No.
But 8 wins and a bowl is good for them.

Where are you getting this data?
Where is the snow?
None in the forecast for the next week either?
How is it that dallas and Shreveport have almost a foot, and the Rockies have none for 3 weeks?

Will Ottawa use its own Federal Canadian troops and military to quell this "state-secessionist mutiny"? Or just "borrow" US or UN "Global peacekeepers"?
The problem for an independent Alberta-Saskatchwan would be its land-locked location. Ideally it needs a port. Be nice if British Columbia or Manitoba joined the fray.
However, most of the commerce is done with the US.
Now, Trump is very supportive, but would Congress? would the next president? or the one after that?
There are plenty of land-locked countries in the world. That wouldn't be a deal breaker.
I doubt they get ratified as a US state. They are far right canada, but far left US.
It is interesting to follow, regardless.

Depending on how old they are....
They have a daycare on the mountain. Literally right next to the lift.

Ski school is great, too.
For the adults, the mountain is amazing for intermediate and advanced skiers as well.
Now, there isn't much else to do there as for as night life as it is a ski mountain and not a resort.
Fly into Bozeman and make the drive. Very easy.
$269 from IAH and 6 hours total flight, 1 stop in dfw.

I've been following this for about 6 months.
Everyone is dismissive of the effort outside of the Western Provinces.
"It's not real. It's fringe. It won't happen."
However, the a good portion of the taxes used for the Far Left Liberal policies in Ottawa are siphoned off from the more conservative provinces.
Economic progress and jobs are blocked.
Infrastructure investment requests are denied.
And the leaders in Ontario and Quebec continue to make false promises to the Western Provinces.
This dystopian scenario has been intensifying the last 5-10 years, and the resentment has been brewing for 30 years.
Alberta absolutely has the finances and ability to go independent.
And Saskatchewan knows that if they don't go with Alberta, they will be the last teat on the cow and will get milked to death. So, they'll likely go, too.
I'm not sure if Northern BC has enough people to out-vote Vancouver, but they are even more conservative than Alberta and Sas.
And Manitoba has had several pipelines denied by Ottawa (for no good reason) that would have helped them financially. So, they are less likely to join Alberta, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Ottawa has been doing the same song and dance about promises, but that boat sailed when they replaced Trudeau with Carney. He's been even worse in trying to collaborate with the West.
The underlying issue is that Ottawa knows it can't survive financially without Alberta. So, it'll be a fight to the death to prevent succession.
The problem is that more than 75% of Albertans would vote to leave.
Not 52%... Not 60%.... an overwhelming majority.
It's not about if at this point. It is when.
They will fight in court for the next decade. Then, who knows.

I did it for 2025.
It wasn't as hard as you might think.
I didn't realize how much it was dragging me down.
I feel great. I'm in the best shape in 20 years.
Sleep has greatly improved.
You can easily do it!!
It's a great goal.
