Let's look at how each of us is affected:
First I assume that we are on here and we drive cars and we do so with insurance.
Our insurance has to include coverage if we are run into by uninsured motorists. We have it for medical and car damages.
In blissful east Tennessee our car insurance has more than doubled in the past twelve months. Our cars are older and worth less, we are older but no wrecks or tickets, and the increase in uninsured coverage is up, and the last bill gave us the opportunity to greatly increase our coverage at, of course, an increased cost.
Are all drivers insured? Stop laughing. So many stopped without drivers licenses. Insurance?

I was worried ice was having issues with getting illegals tf out based off your title. I’m glad that’s not the case. Keep working hard boys

Completely agree with this.

Partially disagree with this. ICE is filled with humans who will make mistakes for sure.
But most American citizens in good standing are not worried about ICE unless they are getting in their way (see Minneapolis this winter.)
Also, I’d love to know country he hailed from that requires asylum.
Because unless it’s Palestine, Ukraine, Iran, or South Africa, I call bullshite.
And even then, unless he’s from Mexico or Canada, he passed through a bunch of countries that would have offered asylum along the way.

well, it’s a 2 part comment. Sure, I agree with his initial point to an extent, but his secondary point is stupid. thus, a downvote. sorry, not sorry

Mexico
Remittances. Remittances have become one of the most important sources of currency and income in Mexico—the second largest behind the manufacturing sector.Apr 9, 2021
Second only to manufacturing, should be used as a hammer against the cartels. Of course, very few know how much the cartels spread around Mexico.

I am also aware that we have a problem that needs to be addressed but I disagree with how we are going about it. I watched an ICE truck pull up to an Ideal market and throw every Hispanic person in the place into custody. I get that they will sift through the people and release those here legally but last I checked its illegal in the United States to take someone into custody that hasn't done anything wrong. Doesn't seem very American to arrest first and ask questions later.

Just for example, one issue with ICE procedures is the trawling net approach and then sorting out who they've caught while holding detainees without regular rights while that process plays out.
To me, that's defensible if they're right on the money with who they're arresting but not acceptable if they're detaining US citizens at all or holding a bunch of people here legally "until it's sorted out". That's pretty anti-American based on what I've been taught we value.
Even if you just have American citizens and tourists from other countries nervous about being arrested and held for long periods, you need to do better. It seems pretty un-American if we supposedly value freedom.

That's what's causing many people who agree with deporting illegals to be so adamantly against how ICE is operating.
Just a personal note. My girlfriend is NYC born Puerto Rican from a family that's been here nearly 100 years. She's terrified of being in any place she thinks ICE could just round her up and then sort it out a few days later.
I've also had Italian and Spanish friends come every summer for years to my house in Pensacola. Many haven't come the past two years simply out of fear of ending up caught up in some ICE raid.
Right or wrong, we need to be doing everything we can to address how that absolutely will not happen in supposedly constitutionally based and freedom loving America.
If that makes ICE a little less efficient, that's still the American way. Just like he cops would more efficient catching thieves if they arrested everyone nearby and held them until they proved their innocence.

Exactly, that's a great thing.
It doesn't however provide prescription on what to do about the people that are already here. Sure, stopping the bleeding is a good thing but what about the horses that have already escaped the barn?
quote:
ICE has already expanded the 287(g) agreements they have around the country, including more and more with jails. Homan likes that approach, and pushes for it. Withholding federal funds from sanctuary cities is another tool they can, and are actively, using. It's not "vague" it's actively happening. The Homan approach is vastly superior to the Bovino approach but it doesn't make for as many viral clips.
For clarity, are you arguing that the administrations mass deportation strategy is wrong or are you arguing there are certain aspects that you don't favor but actually do support some of their methods?
quote:
Not vague at all. The H-1B visa system is the most abused visa we have. You know what America doesn't have? A shortage of qualified, educated, and capable young people to work in tech. There is no labor shortage to be supplemented by fraudulent foreign workers. You know what America does have a shortage of? Workers willing to work in the heat doing manual labor. The solution is to force Americans off of government assistance and put them to work. But until that pipedream happens, eliminating the seasonality and cap to the H-2B and expanding qualifying jobs for H-2A would go a long way in stopping working age men coming to the US illegally to work because they have a valid, although temporary, path to do it.
The State Department quietly added a requirement that for non-immigrant visa interviews the applicant is asked asylum screening questions. If they answer affirmatively to the questions they are denied visas, if they answer negatively but then apply for asylum it destroys credibility. That right there is a way more tangible step to correcting issues than indiscriminate traffic stops.
Pretty much everything you've said addresses how to tackle future illegal immigration but you haven't really addressed the millions of illegals already here. What about the millions of people who don't fall into the criminal demographic you talked about? Do we just flush it and amnesty them all?

Update - I decided to watch the Amber Perez video on Facebook where she talks about what happened when she got to meet with the student a little while ago.
I'd love to know if this changes anyone's perspective if what happened is true. I have no idea if she's telling the truth, or if he's telling the truth. I'm just saying, if what is being reported is true, how can you actually be ok with this?
What was said:
The student was leaving his place of employment when a West Monroe police officer stopped him and asked for his identification. He showed the police officer his Real ID, and the officer said he was good-to-go after he ran his information in the system.
Then, before he could leave, an ICE agent asked to see it, and he showed him his Real ID. The agent then asked for his Social Security Card. The student showed him a picture of his card on his phone, and the ICE agent said he was good-to-go.
Then a second ICE agent came and asked to see the ID and photo of the Social Security Card. The student showed him, and the agent said he didn't believe it was real. So he was detained.
Since then, his Real ID and Social Security card appear to have been verified as authentic, but he is still detained. I don't think it's not up to ICE to release him. I assume that has to be done by a judge.
So, long story short... a police officer and an ICE agent checked his identification and said he was good-to-go. Another ICE agent checked his identification and told hiim he believes it was fake. It was not fake. His place of employment has cameras and it's believed that captured the interaction. I have no idea if it would have audio, but if it comes out I'll post a link.
My opinion is if it happened like what was said, then I have an issue with him still being detained. I have an issue with him being detained in the first place if two officers (one West Monroe and one ICE agent) said he was cleared and the only reason he was detained is because an ICE agent felt the ID was fraudulent.

I have a Honduran guy at work that became a citizen in 2024 after 12 years of waiting on the absurd process. His take on this is he made the decision to become a citizen rather than to be scared every day could be his last day as an American. He told me a few weeks ago that he carries his citizenship papers, passport, DL, etc with him everywhere he goes so there is no confusion when/ if he is approached by ICE agents. His mindset is that he did it the right way and has no remorse for others that ignored the issue at hand.

Amber Perez is a dumb fat Mexican idiot who should be mocked and ridiculed. In a better world nobody would know who the frick she is. Yet in our current world some people not only think she has functioning brain cells, they view her as some sort of like really smart uh hero and stuff

ICE can go to the Morial convention center in New Orleans and scoop up all the illegals they want with all the work being done there.

I find it a pretty damning comment on ICE procedures that an American citizen is so nervous about being in their own country that they feel the need to carry "citizenship papers, passport, DL, etc with him everywhere he goes"
How many of you would support other tough on crime police tactics that caused you to do that or risk being held for days while it's sorted out?
