What evidence supports this “trawling net approach”? How many American citizens were detained because ICE mistook them for illegal aliens, as opposed to citizens arrested for allegedly interfering with an operation? IYO
Even the broadest study I can find on the topic which comes from ProPublica, which is hardly a MAGA propaganda outlet, tallies it at around 170 citizens that have been held by immigration agents during the first nine months of 2025. Except about 130 were accused of assaulting or impeding officers. A little over 50 were held while agents questioned their citizenship, and the count combines ICE and CBP.
Does roughly 50 documented citizenship disputes during hundreds of thousands of immigration arrests establish an indiscriminate “wide net”?
Let's also dive deper into: “regular rights”. What "regular rights" are being denied? How many legal tourists were held for these alleged “long periods”? What qualifies as a long period? How many legal residents were detained solely because ICE had no idea who they were? You have provided no numbers, cases, or durations. Just a scary description.
Citizenship does not prevent someone from being briefly detained based on reasonable suspicion or arrested for obstructing federal agents. Does it?
And repeating this “anti-American” jab does not make the denominator disappear, does it? Yes...America values freedom, but it also values borders, the rule of law, and enforcement of laws passed by Congress. The patriotic gotcha is doing an awful lot of work where evidence should be....but doesn't.

I find it a pretty damning comment on ICE procedures that an American citizen is so nervous about being in their own country that they feel the need to carry "citizenship papers, passport, DL, etc with him everywhere he goes"
Maybe if we could just get people to have a pictured ID in order to vote in an election things would be different?

meh. more dramatic rhetoric that deserves to be questioned.
Has his friend actually been stopped or detained by ICE?
Has anyone demanded that he prove his citizenship?
Or did he start carrying his passport because political rhetoric and social media convinced him he should be afraid?
FYI: Federal law requires noncitizens over 18 to carry their alien-registration documentation. A passport may be more than legally necessary depending on his exact status, but carrying proof of identity and lawful status is entirely normal.
I carry a driver’s license, proof of insurance, and my vehicle registratoin everywhere I drive, so police can identify me and verify my paperwork. I don’t consider that a damning indictment of law enforcement.

People are idiots, but it seems like some public officials are coming to realize her "sway" with the locals and are reaching out to her like in the case of Friday Ellis.
Amber Perez is a dumb fat Mexican idiot who should be mocked and ridiculed
With that being said, if what she is saying is true after meeting with Anderson, then I have to say I'm against what happened.

For clarity, are you arguing that the administrations mass deportation strategy is wrong or are you arguing there are certain aspects that you don't favor but actually do support some of their methods?
quote:
What about the millions of people who don't fall into the criminal demographic you talked about? Do we just flush it and amnesty them all?
These two need to be answered together with some context.
For those with criminal history, I have no problem with them being rounded up and removed.
Our immigration laws are fundamentally broken. In many ways the laws as they stand encourage people to break them, so I'm not outraged when they do. On the other hand, what Biden did was exploit the broken system. So for your amnesty question it would be hard to say yes full stop, because all it does is encourage the situation to be repeated in the future.
Rand Paul has suggested some temporary amnesty like solutions that I think are a good compromise if it is paired with permanent border security and policy/regulatory changes to curtail some of the fraud and abuse we see these days.
What I hate is the indiscriminate enforcement, and erosion of the removal proceedings procedure that has happened the last 18 months. I had no issues with Trump 1.0's enforcement policies, but this time around it has gone overboard IMO. For what hasn't been litigated yet in the circuits, like a lot of the BIA precedential decisions, a Democrat AG can undo with a stroke of a pen, and it will be a mass amnesty.

How long are you cool with being detained in a cell without a lawyer if you were to forget it?

Twinks like you are why this country is in the shape it’s in.

You are the problem with the political system today in the US. People say they want laws enforced but then hesitate the moment they are. People say that the government spends too much money then balk at real cuts. Most American voters simply cannot stomach what it would take to actually fix the government so we continue the lurch forward into economic and social oblivion. What people fail to grasp is the US isn’t immune to collapse and every major civilization has experienced it. We can and will collapse. It is inevitable

I wonder what fake story they came up with to seek asylum.

My thoughts are to deport every single illegal. Start arresting the business owners who employ them and give them 90 days in jail for every single illegal.
Look thoroughly at any legal non citizen. If there have been any crimes (even misdemeanors) deport them too.

That doesn't prove anything FWIW. There are roughly 3.4m work permits approved in FY2024. In LA a work permit gets you a DL. A large majority of that 3.4m are removable or deportable, like 700k of that are people with pending asylum cases.

I'm not sure what twink means exactly but I assume some gay shite you're familiar with. Thanks anyway for making our country better with your brilliant intellectual point.

I have plenty of experience with this. My ex was a cuban asylee and current gf has over stayed her visa. The asylee situation was a mess because the Biden administration let it become even more of a mess than it was. Hell, she had a good portion of a video from some cuban gossip guy pissed at her getting asylum. As far as my current gf she made her choice but there isnt a reasonable way to try and resolve it. Thir community is full of false information and scammers taking advantage of them. The immigration lawyers I have talked to all will give a different answer on how to resolve things. I expect to be told to marry her but to be told a different process by each lawyer is concerning

Most Americans hated the indiscriminate abuse of asylum laws and other measures democrats used to flood our country with illegal aliens who were not vetted.
I don’t recall you being upset with the border disaster Biden and the communist democrats created over the 4 years of his term.

Well, I’m an American citizen standing inside the United States, so your hypothetical falls apart immediately. I don’t need a passport to prove I have the legal right to be here.
You seem to be unintentionally/intentionally missing the point: the other guy's friend is a foreign national working in another country. The proper comparison would be me working in Mexico, Japan, South Africa, or Australia. I would make sure I carry whatever documentation that country required to prove my lawful status. If I failed to do that, I wouldn’t accuse the host country of opression or tyranny for enforcing its immigration laws. You wouldn't either, unless you want to flat out lie about that.
You keep latching onto increasingly dramatic hypotheticals while completely ignoring the original question: Where is the evidence of this supposed “wide net”? Conveniently missed all my questions to that post?

hilarious considering what little other than The View level rhetoric you've contributed in this thread.

I mean I didn't support it, and you won't find a single post I made stating I do. In fact there are numerous threads on the issue of immigration where I have condemned it.

Think you know the answer.

That's wild, that situation is one of the easiest to resolve unless she had like a J-1 or K-1 visa.

Thankfully there's been a big nationwide push to start suing these people, but the notarios usually have nothing to recover so harder to get anything from. The attorney's have insurance at least. There are at least 2 or 3 big ones where attorneys were filing fraudulent VAWA cases.

You do realize that the post/discussion you're responding to is about an American Citizen carrying all this stuff out of fear of ICE detainment:
quote:
Honduran guy at work that became a citizen in 2024 after 12 years of waiting on the absurd process
That's what you're responding so by saying it's not about an a American citizen.
