That makes me feel better. I enjoy having a good discussion and learning. I don't need to dunk on people even when they are ignorant about something while calling me ignorant.
ETA: I stand by my statement that $4B over decades is nothing to WFC.

Lafayette went from about 10 publicly traded companies in 2014 to what, 2-3 now? New Orleans and BR aren’t too much better. Glad I got out

Seriously. It is bad.

Small banks being consolidated into large banks is more of a symptom of other issues. Overregulation and the costs of compliance are big issues for small banks, and unfortunately, that’s not going away. The man hours it takes to book a loan has gone up exponentially in the past 15-20 years due to regulatory compliance. Large banks get some scale in those areas. Another big issue for community banks is that their niche is being invaded by credit unions and the farm credit system, which are being allowed to operate well outside of their original scope. When you have to pay taxes while competing with non taxpaying entities, you’re fighting with both hands tied behind your back.

least profitable states to bank in are MS, Ark and LA -- a little surprised FHN took on Iberia after looking at that map -- however, Iberia has been innovative and ahead of the game for quite some time

I'm late to the party on this one, but that's pretty funny considering the stink they made when they lost out to Hancock on the Whitney purchase.

Yeah, I was surprised as well, but if you look at the map, Iberia has a bigger presence in Florida and Texas than First Horizon . First Ho is mostly TN and NC as well as SC . It makes sense for First Ho......not really seeing the advantage for Iberia. Sucks for Lafayette

Years back I went with IberiaBank because I wanted a local bank.
Should I consider switching again? Are there advantages to using a larger bank vs a smaller local one?
In very general terms, there are many people find local banks to be a better fit for small business banking. You can actually meet decision makers and know who is on the board. If you have an issue needing attention, you're not stuck with a 1-800 line or a person in the branch lacking real authority.

Periodically we have threads on here extoling the convenience of having an account with Megabank, where their only interaction is thru an app. That's alright I guess, if you only have a credit card and a small checking account (although when things go to shite, and they will, good luck getting it resolved thru an app.) For anything else, nothing beats having an actual human point of contact with the authority to make decisions on their own. You don't want someone who relies strictly on an algorithm when you're looking for a business line or credit. Nor do you want your mortgage to be resold 15 times over its life.
My community bank doesn't offer all the products Chase does, but I can walk in and talk to the president if I need to.

Exactly. This is how you bank small business.

MEM is currently being heavily renovated, but MSY is a brand new world class airport.

I was always surprised that Whitney got bought out by Hancock....would have thought it would be the other way around.
Whitney was virtually worthless after 2008 because they'd made so many bad loans, Whitney would've folded and been taken over by the FDIC. Hancock got all the Whitney assets effectively for free by agreeing to pay off Whitney's $300 million TARP loan they had to take out to survive.

Yep- more corporate welfare, more pollution, and cuts to Medicaid would will solve that problem.
