Sorry to hear about that for Louisiana.
There isn’t a large metro in the state that can compete with Tennessee’s tax environment or Memphis’s Fortune 500 presence.
Sad but true. Hate on Memphis, but it’s at least on the radar for white collar jobs with FedEx, IP, or AutoZone. That’s more than the entire state of Louisiana has.

What does deregulation have to do with anything? Of course, other than a buzz word for anything.

Tennessee is a very strong business state. No state income taxes either

IberiaBank already has a large mortgage services office in Germantown, TN. I think First Horizon has one of the towers in downtown Memphis.
This is a gut check for Louisiana, but it’s a good thing for IberiaBank and their employees as well as the state of Tennessee and Mississippi.
Memphis has some issues, but I would seriously put East Memphis, Germantown, Collierville, or even Olive Branch up against the best communities in Louisiana. Those are nice, safe areas with excellent public/private schools, good infrastructure, good job market, solid health care options, gorgeous neighborhoods, and friendly people. The costs of living is very reasonable too.
The Ole Miss alumni don’t really outnumber the LSU or Mississippi State people in Memphis as much as you think they would.

Banking Deregulation is not what makes Memphis more appealing than anywhere in Louisiana.

I can see HomeBank, Gulf Coast Bank, and First Bank & Trust being easy targets for some of the national banks.
Don't forget MidSouth Bank. I believe they've been hoping to become an acquisition target for a while.

Maybe I am no longer a Louisiana homer. I lived in Memphis for a while and loved it.
I would also be pleased if they selected Baton Rouge or New Orleans instead....but I think I am happier for Memphis than I am sad for Louisiana.
I just expect that Louisiana will never get its act together and that JBE would let IberiaBank walk away without aggressively recruiting them.

Dude, MidSouth completed their "merger" with Hancock Whitney like two months ago. It no longer exists.
Now, if you already knew this and were making a joke, you should've used the sarcasm font.

Tennessee is going to boom if Texas starts adopting more “California-esque” policies.

Hopefully someone with a brain rebrands the name of this bank because I do not want do business with a bank called First Horizon. It reminds me of a funeral home company not a bank.

Lol. Nope -- I had no idea and somehow totally missed this. Thanks!

It's First Tennessee, First Horizon is the parent

This is what happens when you allow multiparish banks.
