So my friends who stayed, on the water, in port Charlotte... going on 8 hours of silence now. I can only imagine the amount of regret they're currently experiencing.
My friends ended up leaving early this morning. Track is on top of their home. Should be arriving in Miami now. It was hard giving her the latest update earlier this morning…

Some n00b tried to call me out like 3 days ago after saying it wouldn’t make landfall in Tampa. I mean.. has he seen a hurricane before?

Not so fast my friend! Still a lot of game left.
The Tamponians are a resilient people that worship at the altar of Sheikra, the goddess of Busch. It is there you will find your answer.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that whatever soul selling black magic deal some Baws made for the 2019 championship has ran its course.

There’s gonna be a shite ton of after the storm deaths from heart attacks while cleaning up
That and CO2 deaths are always the craziest. You survive the storm only to die from a generator.
A whole family was killed after Laura because their generator was too close to an open door and they ran it in their garage
quote:
Eight of the 15 hurricane-related deaths confirmed by the Louisiana Department of Health are attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning from portable generators, which can provide life-saving power in emergency situations but also pose a deadly threat if used incorrectly.
quote:
Officials in Lake Charles said at a press briefing on Friday that five people in one house succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning after fumes from their generator — which was running in an attached garage — entered through a door that was either partially or fully open.

I think Tampa has the most strip clubs per capita in the country
Gonna start going to the strip club every Sunday instead of Mass

Really good to hear this.
I have a feeling too many people South of Tampa chose to stay. Messaging is hard, particularly when two extremes of track can result in two extremes of outcome. A Southern track was always forecast to be a much stronger storm at landfall, and here we are. People may not have paid attention the the nuance of the messaging.

Just CO, co2 is dioxide.

Very long but fascinating read about a NOAA hurricane tracker flying into Hugo in 1989.
Went in at 1500’ and hit 185 mph. Massive updrafts and down drafts rocked the plane, made into eye at around 300’. A fire started in number 3 engine and they slowly circled the eye while gaining altitude.
Another tracker came into the eye and helped them search for a “cleaner” path out.

No joke. Got caught in a microburst once and made that ride inadvertently. Brutal.

I’ve stayed in North Ft Myers multiple times at a friends condo. Really good chance it doesn’t survive this.
