My friends ended up leaving early this morning. Track is on top of their home. Should be arriving in Miami now. It was hard giving her the latest update earlier this morning…

Great to hear Certainly beats how I'm feeling about my people this morning.

Weren't the wrecked pretty badly by Hurricane Charley?

Yes. I'd say over half the towns building were new from Charley's damage. My Father-in-law is down there now riding it out again. Last time he lost half his roof...

That said, I have family that have a place on Boca Grande.
That island is going to get wrecked.

My wife's cousin lives in Cortez (on the water) and refused to leave. Based on your description of where your shop is, I imagine its very close. I hope for the best for both of you. I already lost cameras at our property on the bay side of LBK so I'm in the dark with regards to that but I fully expect a few feet of water. I guess thats better than yesterday morning when I expected 10+ and possible nothing left.

My shop is in Cortez on Cortez road (HWY 684). It is just a few miles from Anna Maria island. Its a bad place. But no where near as bad as it would have been if Ian came more north. That storm surge is still going to suck. I am praying I do not have 5 feet of water in our parking lot

That's about the last place I would want to be right now.

Barely above a cabin on Cayo Costa.

If that 18ft verifies, it will be a higher surge than Laura.

Tampa/St Pete may get the worst winds based on landfall location and where the storm is strongest. The angle of the Florida coast plays a factor. If the eye makes landfall south of Tampa, it’s puts the city in the northern and NW eyewall while the southern part of the storm is still offshore a bit due to the angle of the coast.

Does anyone have a source for roughly what time peak storm surge will hit the Port Charlotte area?

Heck, 18 feet is higher than the great 1900 Galveston storm The deadliest disaster in US history. It was “only” 16ft
