Made it to 41 fine. Drinking late, getting up early (not proud of it). Hit 41 and now it takes me two days to recover... probably because I spent all my gas.
But life ain’t bad. Still have my folks and friends. The scene has changed, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

38 in the Army is like 55 in a regular job. Especially if you jumped a lot.

Rough night.
My lower back feels tight and there is a constant sharp pain / pinch.
I never want to sneeze again.

I always say that life after 40 is not like life before 40. I’ll be 60 in October. Feels strange to even type that. Yes you can throw out your back with a sneeze. I pulled a muscle in my sternum while sleeping. Felt like a heart attack. Had it checked out. Hairs growing everywhere you don’t want. Worst is out the ball of your nose. On the outside. Vision loss is a bitch. Countless surgeries. I have a shoulder scope this Thursday. See, 40 ain’t so bad.

This has never happened before. Can I really pull out my back with a sneeze?
When you hit 50, you can jack up your back just putting dishes in the dishwasher when it's cold in the house.
To get better and stay that way, do those lower back exercises that look like they do nothing every single day.

I hit 53 in March.
Yesterday I went bass fishing all day and woke up this morning with tennis elbow from all the casting.
SMDH.

I'm 47 and am in better shape than when I was 27. Run and exercise everyday. Still can pop a boner when the wind blows. Feel great.
I stubbed my little toe on my right foot on the back of the door walking out of the bathroom of a condo I'd been living in for eight years, the weekend I turned 40. Broke it, and it hurt to put a shoe on it for a couple of years.
Yes, this is what you have to look forward to for the rest of your life, and it only gets worse.
Enjoy!

I played soccer for years so I’ve always been in pretty good shape.
I was the same, but when I turned 30 I pulled a back muscle by coughing. shite happens sometimes.
I'm 42 now, but the only thing that has made me feel old is my son.

40 is a great time to get into lifting heavy and squat like an SOB. Trust me on this. It is about to get very important to have and maintain muscle. Heavy squats are the closest thing to the fountain of youth that man had discovered.
quote:Yes, your back muscles lock up to protect the spine and you hit the floor. The first time it happened I had to go to orthopedic clinic to get it the unlock and have been going to a chiro off and on for years when it flares back up

I had a herniated disc in my neck a few years ago. It was pinching a nerve, and my right ring and pinky fingers were kind of numb. It hurt to turn my head a certain direction. The doc tried to talk me into surgery. frick. That.
You got lucky in that the herniation was to the side. Mine was straight back in to the spinal cord. No option but surgery. Two titanium replacement discs later, I'm good as new. And a cyborg.

The most disappointing thing about aging is the difference between pain and injury.
When I was young I was sore quite a bit from exercise,no pain,no gain.
Now the soreness and pain is all around.Maybe I'm paying a price for trying to stay young.
Oh well, father time is a mother fricker...
