Ugh. We live in a society where we think nobody should ever die. I talked to a guy saying he was glad everything was shut down so his 82 year old mother didn’t get it. 82 fricking years old. 50 years ago she’d be dead already.
People die. It’s ok.

Stop. No one is saying that. We carry viruses and bacteria all the time that puts older folks at risk. Does it mean we now shut the world down because there's a higher risk?

The readiness in which people are willing to just give away their way of life for something that amounts to a statistical anomaly on the world scale is really interesting.

That's my concern, as well. The precedent has been set to shut down a perfectly healthy economy anytime there's an unknown Asian virus.
As someone that lived in S. La during Katrina...my hope is that the front-line preparedness improvements for the next time will occur...

My 84 year old mother told me she doesn't understand why we aren't doing business as usual. She said people her age are the only ones in danger, and that they were ready to die. She said none of us are contributing to the economy. Wonder how many other people her age feel that way.

There has to be a compromise between acceptable losses in the economy and acceptable losses of life.
One of the expendables here. Way under 60, no diabetes, weight issues, or hypertension, but born with a crappy immune system. What can you do.
Still, I agree with this. The current approach won’t be sustainable or justifiable long-term unless there’s a pretty enormous net benefit.

I fall in the middle. Look at the worldometers.info website and see the numbers. Then consider this is the whole world's numbers. I think people need to turn off their televisions and step back from the fear that the nonstop news has put into them. Realize the truth. This virus infects around .04% or less of people worldwide. Not the 100% like the news would have you believe. Those exponential math tables are good to show exponential math where everything multiplies perfectly. Live things don't multiply perfectly and for each person who resists or kills the virus before it can infect them or spread, the numbers change drastically.
Does this mean we shouldn't do anything? No. I believe we are trying to do the right thing by breaking the spread patterns as much as possible through distancing and sanitizing. Soon we will see actual numbers when the testing capacity catches up with people with symptoms. It is refreshing to not see every test and in fact, not even a majority of tests coming back positive. This alone should be taken as a great sign that it's not near as bad as previously thought.
So continue to do what you can to stay healthy and use distancing as much as possible while maintaining hygienic practices. That alone will help more than watching the 24hr news go on and on whipping you into a frenzy. Look at the numbers and take a breath. We all aren't going to be infected and everyone's grandparents/boomers aren't going to die. Some unlucky ones might. Just like they might from other things. People die. It's part of life.

Financial compassion? Bruh
I’ve seen more people die at my feet while putting my life on the line than you could count. I’ve also saved people without a pulse, babies, elderly etc. So take it however you want, but I I can die being fulfilled whether you like my comment between saving lives or people being out work for a few weeks. Seriously, why do you exist?
