Paid feds $1000 this year but got back $875 from state, close enough for a wash for me.

More like a “ I don’t understand how taxes and withholding works” check in

We owe $398
Got pretty close to tax perfection this year.

Guestimating my W-4 every year would be such a crap shoot. I do some 1099 consulting work on the side and we also have a handful of K-1 investment partnerships that flucutate big time. We have to do Single & 0 to offset those things.

Right, my tax situation has been vastly different over the past 3 years. We went from single income and paying tuition (year 1), to dual variable income and making a house purchase (year 2), to a job change and one of us working 2 jobs (year 3).

Owed some to federal as I normally do, but state tax changes have me breaking even with them instead of a small return. So normally net about $1k owed after state refund, but that got messed up a little this year.

Omg you said “poors”. So frat of you. So cool...there is no correlation in owing to being wealthy.

Wrote a sizable check this year
...a lot of income changes in 2018. Looking forward to predictability in 2019.

Happy April 15th, fellow producers.
Paid 5900 in Federal
Paid 1300 in State
Payroll taxes are due today another 2k
Paid 1000 to CPA for company taxes last month
expect invoice about 450-650 for personal return from CPA
estimate tax bill of 1900 is due right now, and 350 for State (for 2019)
So about 13k ...of fun and glory out the window....
My biggest issue is keeping up with estimated taxes on potential earnings/profits owning my own business...so the taxes owed every year is due to this going up and down but trending upward.
My wife and I made slightly less than 2017, and we paid slightly less in taxes...I'd say a slight savings due to Trump tax changes
All in all not horrible, what stinks about taxes is paying all these professional fees to have our taxes done, example, our return ended up being 67 pages
it's stupid...
I consider our earnings upper middle class...

My annual goal is to withhold within +/- 5% of the total I will owe. This year I had to pay about 3%. Right on target.
Percent of AGI paid in taxes was slightly lower.

Had to pay over 7k this year. Hell, I haven't lived in La. in over 20 years and still had to pay them over $1200. Bunch of thieves.

I owe a small amount this year. I am not rich and I am not poor.
I have a laughable amount of my wife’s income withheld each year to help offset 1099 earnings in addition to quarterly estimates. When perfectly calibrated, I don’t owe anything other than my account’s fee on April 15th. This year I was off by about $200.

Yeah, 2018 we had a child, wife didn't work for three months, she went from part-time physician to full-time physician, plus I had about $7,500 in 1099 stuff on the side. K-1s were shitty due to a depressed industry, so maybe they helped me some with tiny losses.
Needless to say, that's just too much for me to try and adjust withholding. Especially the variable, taxable income.

Yeah, that's the thread I would like to see.
1099 vs. W-2 vs. K-1 income. Also amounts paid into the system last year.
