If you go to a store and see a $100 item on sale for $5 off and a $500 item on sale for $10 off, do you assume the $10 off is the better deal just because it's a higher dollar amount?

Use your fricking brain and learn percentages, idiot.

Do you believe in wholesale versus retail?

Do you believe in bulk discounts?

Shouldn't it be the same for paying taxes?

exactly, just means one of 2 things: either he is self employed and has to "pay out" at the end of the year because he has to do the witholdings himself OR he didn't set his witholdings properly when he started at his job.

End of story....it literally means nothing else.

I’ve never had to pay when filing. Thank you oppressive student loans!

Self employed... so I pay quarterly. It was a great year so my taxes are heartbreaking.

No, but this year, due to changes in tax, a lot of people are ending up paying that didn’t last year from what I’ve been told.

Jesus Christ Greek!

How much in taxes did you pay during the year?

I believe it was 33k

I’d have to go back and look though. That may have just been Federal.

Lots of people like myself are retired and live off of income from investments, a large part of which are taxed as capital gains for which we receive 1099s, with no taxes withheld, but I suppose that could also be considered being self employed.

I had to cut a ~5k check since I wasn't withholding enough. Single filing status but had 2 exemptions and don't own a home any longer so not itemizing. Oh well.

Owing doesn't mean anything other than you are too dumb to figure out what to pay quarterly.

Was your tax liability more or less than last year? Not the amount that you had to pay when you filed, but your tax liability over the whole year.

Worse... I went from 17.7% effective tax rate to 20.4%. Two things though... #1 My SALT deduction was cut by 10K and #2 our AGI went up 100K over the year before.

Honestly... Had we moved with out the new tax plan I think my effective rate would have been about the same.

My mother who is a retired corporate cpa was complaining about this as well and told me she owed north of $20k, when last year she only owed a few thousand. I’m ignorant when it comes to this stuff but I guess she did really well playing the stock market this year.
