re: Does Kirby work in JT Daniels against UK in two weeks?
Posted by NCDawg52 on 10/19/20 at 6:41 pm to Dawg4Life47
JTD isn’t and hasn’t been healthy. He had complications after his first knee surgery and had still had issues after the follow up scope. Hopefully he is ready at some point, but he isn’t as of now.
Kirby has about as bad a track record with QBs as it’s possible to have, but even he isn’t dumb enough to play Stetson Bennett over a healthy Daniels. Hopefully we are in a better spot after the BYE week

Griffith is not a journalist. I can tell you definitively that what he is claiming is false. Newman won the QB competition. It wasn’t close.
It was and has been well known that JT wasn’t healthy. I’d but it slightly worse than 50/50 that he doesn’t play a down until next season.

From the MG article up on DN... JT Daniels won the original quarterback competition and that’s why Jamie Newman left. D’Wan Mathis is ultra-talented but he’s essentially a first-year player learning the college game while Bennett is a traveled fourth-year veteran.
The health of that knee is what’s holding us back from starting JT it appears.
Mike Griffith is a hack, and in this case, he is making shite up. Newman was the starter. It wasn’t close. JT hasn’t been healthy, and it was known that he wasn’t going to be ready to start the season.

Now that everyone had time to sleep on it? We are still the 3rd best team in the Country, we will still have the #1 defense at the end of the season. Bama has studs at WR, RB, QB and put 7-8 people blocking for Mac Jones so those WRs had time to get open. Our 5'10 former walk on QB struggled but he showed some upside yesterday. Calm down, we are gong to be okay
Not the #3 team. Bama, Clemson, and OSU are all significantly better than us.

Just look at JT’s profile on the UGA website, and look at all the accolades, and tell me the guy doesn’t at least deserve a chance to play. My only thought is he’s truly not 100% healthy but with that brace finally being removed he should be by Kentucky.
He isn’t healthy. His knee isn’t there yet. It is 50/50 whether he plays at all this year.

Stetson is by far our best option right now.
And that tells you all you need to know about why this team isn’t winning a title.

Georgia’s defense can play as well as they have all season, and Bama will still score in the high 30s. Can the UGA offense match that? Unlikely.

No national titles since 1980.
It’s the most pathetic, underachieving record in the entire sport.
Until we win a title, we are not an elite program and don’t deserve national respect.

Pittman is about as good of a guy as you will find in sports.
I don’t know how it will play out on the field, but you all have yourselves a hell of a leader.

Yes. Carter was our top LB target, and Hancock was behind only a guy like Grimes and maybe Nyland Green.
There are a lot of factors working against us currently, but Kirby and staff are failing at recruiting during the pandemic. No other major recruiting power is bungling it like we are right now.

We are having our fair share of struggles in state as well.
Carter to Clemson.
Hancock to Clemson and then OSU.
Ferguson to Bama.
Nyland Green trending Auburn/Clemson.
Mondon trending Auburn.
Mims still considered a lean, but auburn and Bama both lurking.

12-0
When Mullen has his QB, it’s lights out for everyone else, and Trask may be the best he has ever had. Only potential close games are LSU and Tenn. The rest will be a blood bath.

I also think it’s likely that beck and Mathis transfer before all is done.
Beck emerged as a junior but then had a very poor senior season. He could likely become a serviceable starter at some point, but lacks the overall talent of Newman, Daniels, Vandagriff.
Mathis was a project from the start and by misfortune hasn’t been able to play or practice fully. He is way behind the others based on that development.

One of my colleagues is in LA, played at USC. He is still pretty plugged in on the program there and sent me a text about it this morning.
Looks like rivals has it now as well.

Looks like USC QB JT Daniels is going to transfer to Georgia. Should be announced today.

This class will be excellent and feature many more in state guys.
Very disappointed to lose Carter to Clemson. He is likely the best player in the state this year.

Dropping in to let you guys know that it seems like Feld will be your hire.
He was great when he was an assistant here at Georgia. Players loved him and he is also on the cutting edge of the technical side of modern S&C. One of the best in the biz, IMO, and would be a great hire for you guys.

Amazing class for us, especially considering the staff turnover and challenges on the field.
More talent on campus than any time in UGA history.

Is he the best DL coach we could have? No.
Has he missed on lots of priority targets? Yes.
Did he need Fountain, Kirby, and others to take over recruiting on several key guys this cycle, including Jalen Carter? Yes.
Has his unit produced on the field this year? Yes.
The bottom line is that I still feel we would be better long term with a more proven coach for that spot, but I am happy that he produced a better on field product this year than expected.
His recruiting lags behind his peers on our staff, but under Kirby we will bring in talent at every position. Going in to 2020 we are very thin on the DL, and need some good injury luck and maybe a grad transfer to maintain elite talent AND depth.

re: Should we expect to be a pass first team next year?

In our biggest games of the past 4 years, we have been pass heavy.
Great teams can stop the run. Elite defenses with elite defensive lines can absolutely limit the rushing effectiveness of opponents.
To produce against great defenses, you HAVE to be able to attack through the air, all over the field, with modern, diverse passing concepts.
Hiring Monken and ending the Coley experiment is the first and biggest step that Kirby has taken towards having they type of offense that can win a national title.
I don’t know what the run/pass split will look like, and frankly don’t care.
