You have to be poor to not owe the government any money?

If anything it’s the other way around—you prob claimed married and 10 all year and didn’t pay any taxes.

Big changes this year and it simply isn't that easy. It's even more difficult for self-employed people. It doesn't come down to a matter of just adjusting witholdings for us.

Owe $3k. I was a little off in my calculations after my wife had our twins last year and didn't work for 3 months while getting some short term disability.

Managed to get my tax liability down to 14 percent this year! Still poor though

I owed around $3000. Basically, I had a year to invest and make money off of that as opposed to the government doing so.

Not rich, but not poor either. Owed ~$1,100 due to the wife's job-changings.

Looking forward to next year's refund now that her career has re-stabilized.
