I go to the beach every weekend here in FL and it's kinda depressing how many kids are fat. Not just chubby but looking obese.

It is depressing to see obese kids not only at the beach but in stores, everywhere. I don't feel like they have been given a chance to live a healthy lifestyle. It makes me sick.

As silly as it is, there was a “Scrubs” episode about just this topic where it showed being honest with people and not sugar coating it can actually make a difference in people’s lives.

My doctor friend says that Scrubs was a better doctor show than most purportedly serious doctor shows like Greys Anatomy.

On top of the fatness is the amount of horrendous tattoos on the fat bods. Fat women with thigh tats is the latest addition to the horror show...plus some fricking blue or green hair.

It is.

Outside of the obvious shenanigans, the medical aspect is fairly well done and accurate.

Move out of the deep south and shitty rural areas.

Nobody in Portland or Seattle or Vancouver is fat.

Bruh, it isn’t localized to the Deep South anymore.

This entire country is obese as frick.

You bring up Portland, but Oregon has an obesity rate of nearly 30%.

And that puts Oregon at 31st on the list of states.

Washington is at ~28%.

I was at a pizza restaurant yesterday picking up a pizza to celebrate the end of a 10 week diet I was on. As I was waiting for my order to be ready in walks in a family. The parents were not obese, but they were fat, but the kids were obese. Triple chins and everything, a son and daughter. Waddling in. They probably weighed more than me but I don't even think they were out of elementary school. Just what these kids need, more food like pizza.

Depends on your definition of fat.

Plenty of these hipster millenial "craft beer enthusiasts" are definitely fat. They may not be "obese fat", but they are not lean either. Soft jawline, soft midsection, little muscle definition.

Please stop with sugar is a drug bullshite. Plenty of studies show you are wrong.

And if it is a drug then why, when most people keep it in the house by the bag full, are people not out there shoveling it in by the spoonful?

Just like those memes out there saying sugar is 8x more addicting then cocaine or heroin, lmk the next time fatties are offering free blow jobs for a spoonful of sugar.

It's not a damn drug. Doesn't matter if you think sugar is to blame for obesity or not, atleast don't post stupid exaggerated info, at least be honest about things. Posting things like sugar is a drug is just another crutch for people to fall back on.

And for the record, sugary foods alone do not rank very high in studies for addiction, when combined with fat, people tend to crave those foods. Could be that people crave tasty food and sugar combined with fat tends to offer that.

Oh and if sugar is to blame for the obesity epidemic, then why did the obesity epidemic continue to climb in the 2000s even though sugar intake fell from it's peek in 1996 by 12% during that time period?

Here is a hint, calories consumption continued to rise during that period.

Also if sugar is to blame then why does study after study show that when calories and protein are accounted for, those on low carbohydrate diets tend to lose body fat at the same rate as those on other diets?

Bottom line is that people are fat because they eat too many calories, not enough protein and live to sedetary of a lifestyle and their non exercise thermogenesis is extremely small.

TLDR carbs don't make you fat, overeating and being a lazy arse make you fat.

Yall should probably define "fat". are we talking fat as in obese, or fat like (most women) who just had a kid? Or fat as in, you're pudgy and have no muscle definition? What's the baseline here?

bitching about someone who isn't ripped like PB
(apparently is) is stupid cause most people aren't going to look like that.
bitching about someone whose fat like Momma June is understandable.

The definition of "fat" is now morbidly obese because the average person is now fat.

Yikes, hit a nerve there? There are always studies upon studies to prove one side vs the other. You have to look at who is backing what study, and why.

I am not going to "stop" with my sugar is addictive "bullshite". It's what I believe, and if you have differing OPINION, because that what you have - an opinion - that is perfectly fine. I'm not upset over it.

I also don't take anything you are saying "for the record" unless you are a dietitian, doctor or work in this industry.

it's constant overconsumption of simple carbohydrates that is making people fat and diabetic. Refined foods such as sugar is one of the worst simple carbohydrates but there are many more others. Processed foods being the main culprit.
