what broscience? Are you calling one of the founders of all of lipidology a "broscientist"?

Eating "lean meats" and "upping fiber" does not result in better cardiovascular outcomes. If we move this to the HFB where it belongs, then I'll post plenty of science.

whole lotta bs pseudoscience in here. you know what foods to eat. eat those. eat less of the foods you know you shouldn't be eating. work out. strength and cardio are needed. do that for a few months. if your numbers don't budge, take the damn pill and live longer. there are very few side effects to a statin.

Them pills will make your dong not work right

Main reason I just got myself down to 190 from 225 3 months ago.
I go to the Dr once a year for a full checkup and she knows it. My cholesterol came back high last time and she threatened me with "If you have to start taking these pills, your sex life will suffer". That's all it took.

You linked an article that said because levels don’t matter, Vascepa could be beneficial. That doesn’t change the fact that it can still raise LDL. Unless your triglycerides are above 500, you won’t be prescibed a fish oil. There are simply better options for lowering TC and LDL. Not saying you can’t go buy it over the counter and take it. Hell I take it every morning and my cholesterol is normal.

Not a doctor, but eating lots of fiber helps mitigate cholesterol in the blood and exercise helps lose the fat. The data are contradictory about whether low fat diets do anything to help cholesterol (the evidence seems to show that there is no link between dietary saturated fat and cholesterol).

But I see no reason to be afraid of statins. They work. It's probably wise for every man to go on them if there is any heart disease in the family.

Step One: ignore 99% of posts in this thread (this one being in the 1%)

Step Two: research lipids and blood cholesterol and find a doctor who actually knows anything about it, cares to know anything about it, and will do a LOT more work before Rxing a statin.

Step Three: find some useful threads on Health & Fitness Board. Some have good resources and links to scientific articles and such

OP..you should listen to this entire post and ignore everything else in this thread, if you were looking for serious advice.

Also, as you've noticed here, some people will give you an answer of Keto for everything. Those same people will be on the health board as well. Ignore them, and stick to this guys post.

I have read a few of those articles/studies and I can always find a study that contradicts them. I'm not saying that any of the studies are wrong but that there is still no definitive answer to what works.

So doctors of the OT, tell me how to do it.

1. Listen to your doctor.
2. Change your diet and drinking habits.
3. Take the pill if you need the pill. Would you rather be dead or having bypass surgery?
