Years ago, when I made the switch to fiber internet and streaming, I took all the Cox equipment to their local brick and mortar, stacked it on the countertop, and announced I was stopping their services. No argument or sales pitch.

I really don't feel bad for anyone who still pays for a TV service like ATT/ Cox. Its like eating shite and then crying that you ate shite.
Furthermore, I had an issue with my ATT internet last month and a normal/local American answered the phone and ended up giving me $20 off a month.

Crazy thing is my neighbors behind me all have fiber, 5 blocks over in front of me has fiber; they just happened to skip over my little section of the neighborhood.
Sounds like we might be really close neighbors.
ATT Fiber is all over my subdivision except for basically my street. Several hundred homes and probably 20-30 of them don't have access to ATT Fiber, only Cox.
I know ATT is probably worse than Cox, but I just want the option to cancel so I can stop paying $150 for just the internet.

I do unfortunately. The 1st phase of the neighborhood development only has Cox available. All other phases have 3+ options. The moment I have AT&T available, I'm switching over to fiber.

Ha, I did the same last weekend. I canceled Cox for Att. The lady (from India) canceled me out and immediately tried to sell me on their cellular service.

This. And I swear to god these companies don't just contract customer service out to some company in India because its cheaper, but they also know people will get frustrated dealing with them and just hang up and not cancel service, etc.
I don't know what it is, but I have a really hard time understanding people with strong "india" accents and I have to tell myself to really pay attention and don't get frustrated, but yeah they are reading from some printout or something.. They say whatever, you ask a question and its "can you hold please" then they mute the phone. Then they come back with an answer.
But Cox is hit and miss. Sometimes I get an English speaking.. I guess American. The AI chat that cox has is useless. I always try the chat first, but you can't get much information when it comes to billing with chat.
If I recall I want to say AT&T customer service is worse, but I switched to AT&T and liked it at first then after my 2 years was up went back to cox.

They came into Kingwood last year to install a bunch of fiber optic wire, had multiple incidents of them cutting gas lines, coming into people’s backyards unannounced, leaving lunch wrappers and trash all in peoples yards

Be careful with Cox. Get receipits for anything you return. Anything. In 2007 i had a tech pick up my boxes. In 2009 i had to pay $800 for the boxes after they hit my credit report.
.in 2015 i canceled again. This time got a paper saying i turned them in. Sure enough a few months later i see on my credit report the claim that i didn't return my boxes. I was able to get it removed but i still lost points initially.
After posting about it online i found this is very very common.
. I also think i spelled recipit wrong. My spell check is off and that's a word like Guaruntee that i always frick up.

While that ultimately may be true, I now have fiber and have cut my internet cost by 50%.
