The best news about this, is that it's tracking at nearly 20mph.
Question for the experts: When they give maximum sustained winds and Saffir-Simpson category, is it storm track + wind, or is it just storm-relative velocity?

Idalia is beginning to weaken according to NHC. Downgraded to Category 3, sustained winds down to 125 MPH. Still a very powerful hurricane, though.

Wow this is a major storm. Prayers for everyone in the path

I don't get hurricane information anywhere else but here.
This is a good thing.
Just straight up information from folks who are just happy to help.

I don't think storm tracking speed factors into sustained wind speeds

Keaton Beach looks to be the spot.

What’s the deal with Steinahatchee?
Named after a Jewish Seminole?
Named after a Jewish Seminole?

The difference is academic, and the EWRC could actually worsen the storm surge because of the widening of the field of most intense winds

I like looking at street views.
There's a neat little end of the road beach with some nice pavilions there.

The name Steinhatchee was derived from the Creek este enhvcce meaning river (hvcce) of person (este).

If you buy radar estimates of wind, radar indicates winds of Cat 3 strength in the northern part of the eye wall.

Yawn...
So looks like the trough interaction is beefing up the west side. Glad the ERWC started, to at least take the top end of this off.

I noticed that no storm chasers dared to go down there.

Looks like landfall on radar. Models did pretty well.

My mom grew up in Boyd just outside of Perry. She and my dad would go to Keaton Beach when they were dating back in the late 30s. I have photos of them in their swimsuits on the beach.
