re: Seeing more and more Moms mowing the lawn in my hood…
Posted by Latebloomer on 7/2/24 at 12:38 pm to AtlantaLSUfan
I’m in my late 60s and have been mowing my own yard for at least 20 years I’m incredibly picky about keeping my lawn looking great. When I first divorced,I had big corner lot with a pool. I took care of lawn, shrubbery and pool. Have since retired and downsized but I do more yard work than ever. Front has lawn and flowerbeds. Back has no grass, just large shrubs and flowerbeds. I work in it several hours every day. Husband loves how nice everything looks and will mow if I’m out of town. I do all the hedges, pressure washing, weeding, etc. I put out a dozen bags of mulch last Friday and put 20 bags out for my elderly neighbor a couple of weeks ago.

I grew up in Central Florida and have retired back here. We had loads of the Mom & Pop 1 story motels from the 50’s. Parked in front of your room, swimming pool out front with palm trees. Many have survived and quite a few have been restored and are very cute and many families would stay in these for a week vacationing with a station wagon full of kids. Definitely a different feel from the one pictured.

My mom grew up in Boyd just outside of Perry. She and my dad would go to Keaton Beach when they were dating back in the late 30s. I have photos of them in their swimsuits on the beach.

My better half lived in the same neighborhood and went to high school with her. Her dad was a local dentist. He was 2 years older than her.

My 82 year old neighbor drives a PT Cruiser and absolutely loves it. She’s also got a Lexus but recently gave it to her daughter because she prefers driving the PT around town. She’s kept it immaculate and no complaints in the years I’ve known her.

My ex let a couple move in his house that he had just purchased in Orange Beach before Sally. They were supposed to help him repair damage. They moved in, didn’t do anything, wouldn’t leave and he couldn’t evict them because of Covid. I think it took over a year to get them out. It was a real nightmare for him.

Saw helicopter footage of the bridge and then over some marinas they said were on Sanibel. Lots of damage

Watching helicopter footage over Fort Myers and Sanibel. The bridge is breached in at least 4 places. It’s pretty bad. My heart goes out to everyone.

We stayed at the Westin that is near that lock maybe 8 years ago. It was a really nice high rise. Feel terrible for everyone going through this.

Brother-in-law is I assisted living in Citrus County and they contacted us Monday to say they were evacuating everyone Tuesday to another facility in Orlando. If they did, they’ve put themselves in a big mess.

Lady we sold our house to in Louisiana was killed when a tree fell on her car while driving to work. It was a right after we had a hurricane drop a lot of rain. Tree uprooted and she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Live NE of Tampa and truly appreciate all the utility workers that come in and help us get up and going. God bless and be safe.

Have some nieces and nephews in Fort McCoy too. Not too worried about this where we are. We went through some rough ones in Louisiana.

Really helpful! Makes me feel much better with it dropping off so rapidly by landfall. That’s such a shallow area from Tarpon up to Cedar Key. We lived in Crystal River for quite a few years. I know it’ll cause them some flooding problems there.

Thanks, I’ve been up that way before. My brother will probably be with me but I’d prefer driving him as he has some health problems. He used to know all these little back roads, he was a Matco tools distributor. I’ve just moved back the last 5 or 6 years. Spent most of the prior 30 years in Louisiana.

I’m in Ocala and have a sister-in-law flying home from Dallas to Tampa on Tuesday. I’m concerned about coming back to Ocala from the airport. A friend is supposed to pick her up but I’m pretty sure it’ll end up being me. No big concern in Ocala but losing power.

We have a very old Mitchell Gold leather chair and ottoman. I picked it up from an estate sale 5 or 6 years ago. Love estate sales and consignment shops for great high end furniture.
