So, Helene was "nothing" for us and homes on Estero Blvd. still had 1st floor garages flooded, and a foot of sand on their million dollar beachfront yards.

What are we honestly looking at, in the Naples, Bonita, Estero Fort Myers area? The Imperial is always a concern (like the Gulf isn't)? My home sits on an elevated lot, but I am concerned about neighbors, who have already gotten sandbags. Even though we are completely saturated, we don't have the flooding we had, pre-Irma. That's hopeful. It's not the wind, it's the water.

Hey Liz

The maps DeCat posted show you getting 3-5' of surge at your house.

I saw that. I am willing it away. I may be tiny but I am fierce! This tiny piece of ground is ours to protect and with God's grace we will stay dry.

Lots of highly motivated, intelligent people who took this exact position were dead 48 hours later. Don't be stupid. You can't do anything to protect your property. Please leave.

I'm not a meteorologist and I have no technical training..

I personally think this ends up between Tampa and Fort Meyers.. which puts Fort Meyers on the bad side of the storm.. I'd keep a close eye out and prepare for the worst..

Storms in the Gulf almost always go a little bit right of the projected path..

This is a case where you need to use that noggin the Good Lord gave you instead of your heart.

Please board up whatever but leave. A Cat 4/5 hitting an area already full of debris from a prior storm is a freaking death trap

Being in the path and waiting is a terrible feeling.

And go where? The Everglades? Be stranded without gas on I-75? We are near exit 101. To go North would take hours.

We have hurricane glass and our home was built in 2017, after everyone in Florida learned a harsh lesson from Andrew. I am not being contrary, or taking this lightly. In fact, I told my husband days ago that this storm has me very uneasy.

I am grateful to have a strong home, but this storm is somewhat unprecendented.

Thanks for sharing those maps, DeCat. I’ve had the surge map sent to some friends to try to convince them to evacuate. They live in Punta Gorda on the water. One’s street is expected to get 17-19’ surge, and the other’s street is expected to get 15-17’. I cannot fathom anyone staying with that surge, but they don’t want to leave. Both had flood damage from Helene. I’m very afraid for them and know they don’t understand the danger they are in—despite others trying to convince them. I hope and pray that they evacuate.

That’s a bold strategy that will not work out in your favor. Flee now and then you’re one less person that’ll have to be rescued.

I believe in God and that he helps us, but you have to also make the right choices. In my view God will put the path in front of you, but you still have to take it.

You tried. Tell them good bye and you hope that you see them again. And remind them to write their ssn on their arms.

Maybe it’ll scare them. It’d scare the shite out of me.
