It's happened a few times. You might not be old enough.

To be fair, neither Laura nor Ida had the satellite presentation of Milton, which I believe was his point.

I'm old

I'm not saying there haven't been some amazing storms..

Gilbert, Rita, Wilma, Katrina, Michael, Ida, Ivan..

But I've never seen the cold pink/purple cloud tops wrap like a fat donut around the eye like this.. you usually get some blobs here and there.. but idk, maybe I'm too old and misremembering..

I've never seen anything like that in the Gulf. Truly incredible.
I have, I feel bad for the folks in Florida. If this took Camille’s path it would tear up Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee then flood Helene’s already wrecked areas in North Carolina again most likely.

That would be tragic.

is that the state of Florida does not do contra-flow on the interstates for hurricane evacuations.

They opened up the shoulders as another lane earlier today.

Left shoulder only, right is still reserved for breakdowns and flat tires.

Tampa to Ocala was 4hours leaving at 14:00. 6 hours to I-10 west total.

Camille was a little before my time.. and thankfully the complete wrath of Milton won't be felt like Camille landfalling at peak intensity.. but this surge is gonna be nasty.. especially if 1 or 2 EWRC complete

Is there a point at which they shut down roads, to avoid people getting trapped on the roads when the storm hits? I am just curious.

Those are Cat 4s.

Not one of the legendary storms that will define the high end of this basin.

I updated my post. I didn't mean to come off as dick.

I am beginning to get concerned that it is so big that it will impact more than Florida.

Yeah leaving during the day is tough. Google Maps suggesting it’s 2:15 from Tampa to Ocala now.

It’s supposed to exit the Space Coast of Florida and quickly get shot into the Atlantic. This is only a Florida storm

I remember it. It was bad and I was in NW Alabama. I know we were out of power for a while. I remember seeing photos of ships that were washed inshore by the surge.

Camille had basically a 22ft wall of water that just slammed into the Mississippi coast like a tidal wave. But it was a pretty small storm compared to this Milton monster, but it looks as though it won’t be near as strong at landfall as Camille was.
