Essentially. Usually the uncertainty level isn't this high for these things but there's just too many factors that could swing this thing one way or the other depending on small changes

most of those people don't have the resources to run away to another island for shelter. They're stuck.
Then in that situation, I definitely pity them. But saying they stayed because of underestimating the storm is completely different.

Unable to leave island due to lack of resources =/= staying because someone underestimated storm.

It's easy to underestimate something when you've experienced tropical storms your entire life and think this is just the same. Also you don't access to the 24 hour coverage on TV and the internet that we have.

Not saying the people are less intelligent, but they simply are not as educated and informed as we are. It's apples and oranges comparing it you sitting through this conditions with your knowledge.

Heck, access to this thread makes you more knowledgeable than 99% of the islanders.

Providenciales is a flat island. Anguilla and Anegada are as well. Anegada has a high point of 28 feet above sea level. There's no high ground for people to go to there. Providenciales has a high point of 148 feet. Anguilla has a high point of 212 feet.

Having been to all these places I think there are some areas on Anguilla and Provo to shelter, albeit limited. Anegada is for all intents and purposes going to be gone - hope they rebuild the Big Bamboo and hope they got everybody off that island yesterday. Provo is going to be in serious trouble as well. It sounds like St. Martin got wrecked and with some of the characters that live on that island I would never want to ride a storm out there. Anguilla will be in bad shape as they looked to take the northern eye wall for a prolonged period of time.

Maho Beach camera

Maho beach has the famous airport runway right next to where airliners fly right over.

I thought it hit at night but read a little more and saw it was sunrise. Is it wrong to say that that view is beautiful?

There are only so many flights out and many simply can't afford to fly somewhere else. Also, a passport is probably required to get anywhere that's safer and many may not have that either. The islanders have no choice but to ride it out for the most part.

Yeah. Provo is screwed. The house we stayed at is near the highest point but that East End that's lower is screwed with the current path.

They have utility, crew and supply boats that can ferry the locals to other islands out of harms way.

crowded for the plane landings and take off, it's not a hotel. There's a bar next to it with a plane schedule.
