So good to read your home is what it promised to be.

Siphoning gas after storms is a constant. Remember boat motors as a source. One of the keys for refrigerators is to keep them as full as possible (Frozen water in containers to fill the spaces.) The more stuff, the colder the mass and the longer it will last.

And on a totally silly note, the 'buoy' at Key West survived as did the yellow shed to it's immediate east.

Liz,
I'm flattered, but "amazing" is probably pushing it a bit. (Quite a bit, actually!) I'm happy if you've found my comments to have been helpful or humorous.

About the only upside of a hurricane, aside from the hard lessons learned, is that you'll get to know your neighbors a little bit better. You'll like most of what you learn about them. Most people are good and are usually willing to help each other, especially during hard times. Even some of the assholes turn out to have some redeeming values. Other assholes just act like even bigger assholes, but that's rare and can't be controlled. Ignore the assholes.

Register with FEMA as soon as you can. After some storms, they pick up the tab for some emergency clean up equipment, such as chain saws, dehumidifiers, shop vacs, etc. I'm not sure about generators, but it might be worth looking into. I'm not suggesting you buy things you don't and hope to stick FEMA with the bill, but if you have an actual need, they might pay for it. If you lose the contents of your refrigerator, they might pay for that. You pay plenty in taxes, maybe you'll get some money from the government for a change.

Good luck and hang in there.

Looks like Jose finally made up his mind, thankfully it looks like he likes ocean surfing.

Two disturbances coming off the coast a Africa.

Liz, if you get board go look for down light poles and strap them to the roof of your car and go scrap them. You can probably scratch around $100 each pole.

It's just a thought

I'm pretty sure it is. If it wasn't one big monolithic pour, it's at least tied to the concrete apron it sits on. I don't think it's going anywhere.

Great thread. The weather pros here are good.

Most everybody I know had power restored by 5:00 today. We never lost it so we had friends over to get A/C and use Internet, wash clothes etc. since we never lost any services. Most of the traffic lights in West Palm Beach seem to be back online. They had crews from as far as Kentucky here busting arse to restore power.
