I know this is speculation, but I am currently 110 miles inland (Columbia), is there a scenario that I should consider evacuating?

I'm in Columbia, too. I fired up my generator this AM just to make sure, and I'm buying a few jerry cans to stock up fuel just in case. If it continues the way the models say throughout the day, I will probably buy some plywood to cover the windows. I live in an old historic neighborhood with a lot of big, old trees and I'd expect a lot of them to come down if we get walloped.

I 150% agree with you!!! I first heard the tards at TWC use that term during Harvey. When I had it on this morning getting my daughter ready for school I heard it for about the 100th time since then.

I'll leave all that shite for the poli board, but just remeber I have my mute button!! If I want to know what's going on I will come here, and sort through the peej type post, and follow links.

Birds feel the pressure from incoming hurricanes and GTF

For hurricane opal, ducks and other birds went right to the waters edge (in a bayou) and basically faced the wind and laid down. We clocked gusts of over 120 and the birds were just fine. Crazy

Did't St. Marten actually fit entirely in the eye? If they missed it, where are the Cat 5 winds then? Is that max windfield possibly as small as 5 miles?

The island is moving with the eye. No huricane winds there.

Now that's a hell of a strategy.

I saw the TWC camera guy shaking the camera several years ago during TS Issac in Orange Beach during a live interview. Pretty funny when all we had was 30mph winds.

What are you banging your head for? If you're in the eye, it means you passed through the eyewall.

I got what you were trying to say. I'm not sure why posters are responding to you the way they are.

I asked late last night but didn't get any responses. For those of yall with hurricane/aviation knowledge, at what point do you think flights will be shut down out of FLL? Flight in question is scheduled to take off Friday at 3pm

I would expect as Tropical Storm winds enter the area, flights will end.

Were about ~4 days out.

News coming out of St. Martin is looking grim.

quote:

The French interior minister said four of the government's "most solid" buildings have been destroyed on St. Martin in the West Indies, according to a report from AFP.

quote:

St. Martin is home to about 80,000 people, many of whom have "underestimated" the storm's power, according to the interior minister.
