Why does Mobile get such a bad rap? Next to Flint, MI on the list at #130. Seems like a decent small city.

Katy, TX
huntsville is wildly overrated on here but it's still pretty good and wayyy better than some bland suburb 30 miles outside of houston

Wildcat burgers eat pretty good as well.
We cook at home most of thr time. I love to cook and if I can we usually do it at home.
Go out for more specialty stuff like sushi, etc.

Mobile is a pretty meh city. The crime rate has gone up a lot too in the last 10-15 years. But yeah I don’t think it’s really bad.

I live in mobile and find it a great place to live and raise kids. I think a lot of it is personal preference. There’s a lot to do and I like my proximity to a lot of fun things as well. 30 minutes to the island, 45 to Fairhope, 45 to the hunting camp. There’s a lot to do here if outdoors is your thing. Food seen is good and getting much better. Mardi Gras is a blast and pretty family friendly. Downtown is taking off and hosts a great monthly art walk along with other events and festivals. I make a good living here and enjoy my work. Have to use private schools which kinda sucks but my kids are getting a great education at it I guess. I think this list must taken some weird factors into account. I’ve lived in Jackson, MS and have family in Montgomery and it’s laughable to think that those cities rank higher than mobile as a place to live.

The fact they had Augusta Ga in the top 100 causes me to be skeptical of this list. The only reason I can imagine that to be remotely true is the relatively low cost of living but it still seems a stretch to me

So what part of HSV makes you think it's better than Katy?

It's a great town except for the incessant "ROLL TIDE" crap you have to put up with.

I live in the Green, myself. shite, we got too many folks moving in. As soon as the son graduates, I'm moving further into the country.

Within 150 mile radius of Huntsville there are a number of nicer places to live, many without state income tax, better education systems, and more viable means to access entertainment and sport options.
Huntsville is a Government town, with many defense contractors, which insulates it from free market pitfalls.

You hit the nail on the head. Huntsville was surrounded by cotton fields and was far smaller geographically than it is now. The city limits now going to the west comes across I-65. The growth (like most things I guess) has it's positives but it also has it's negatives.

Don't worry, Huntsville is leveraging itself to the hilt to close some of the many gaps you listed. You know....just like Nasville, one of the "better places to live" on your little list, I'm sure.
