re: What is The Worst Job You've Ever Had?
Posted by Rebel920 on 4/9/25 at 8:28 am
In highschool spent a summer working in a restaurant as a bus boy. The job was terrible and working in there was exactly like the movie waiting. There were a few of us friends doing it though and we made a fun time of it after hours. Spent one summer painting land lines in south Alabama and got paid by the mile. This was probably the absolute worst job I did. Post college I worked in the oil field for a while. First out west which I liked. Moved back to work for offshore for a mud logging company that I friends family owned. Seemed like it was going to be a good gig. Would get left offshore for 6 weeks at a time with no relief on jack ups even though they told me I would be deep water. Then would get back on land and within two days they’d be calling me to head to some other spot. Made it through about 6 months of that before I told them to frick off.

Yeah another thing I’ll throw out on the spanking and stuff is it doesn’t work for all kids. Now I will spank both of mine. It’s more affective on my 6 year old than my 10 year old. 10 year is extremely more sensitive to guilt it seems like so we can tell him we are disappointed in him and he takes it very hard. He’s pretty well behaved though so not a lot of punishment for him. He’s just super forgetful which is aggravating in its own right. The 6 year old would be a terrorist if we let her and she is on the receiving end of more corporal punishment than her brother but for the most part she toes the line now. Every now and then she’s in need of a little reminder. Just two different personalities of kids though.

We love our son but my wife and I realize nothing with this child is easy. I don't think he is autistic. He's very smart- not in that parent blind to reality way. Kid just will not listen. Maybe this is normal but its beyond difficult and has been since he turned 2. He fixates on things he wants and his mind cannot let go. It makes it borderline impossible to give him direction.
So my wife is a speech pathologist who actually does autism diagnostics for a living. Many children who are on the spectrum are highly intelligent. Doesn’t really have anything to do with it. The fixating on things can be a sign of autism for sure. I would highly suggest getting a referral from your pediatrician to a pediatric developmental and behavioral clinic of some kind and having him tested. There are so many resources available to parents out there today for a child on the spectrum and the understanding of it has drastically changed since we were kids. Many kids on the spectrum with the right help and tools become highly functioning successful kids. Hope you find some answers. If he is on the spectrum the earlier you get him help the better.

Like I said the old good ones are KOR IMs OOMs Comic Cowboys. They all go back to the 1800s. MOT, Crew of Columbus, MOMs (all female), stripers are all newer but good big parades. Then you have non parading groups like Strikers, Dragons and SCS that are really good. I gotta give props to Conde Cavaliers too. I thought their floats looked really good Friday night and they put on a really good parade to open the season.

Including MOT as an old Krewe with OOM and not IM KOR and Comic Cowboys is kinda funny.Good big Krewe but wouldn’t call them old.

One of my favorite guns I own is a Remington Model Seven in 7mm-08. It’s probably 20+ years old now and I have no idea if they are even still made. It’s a shortened 700 action and they lightened the rifle to about 6lbs or less. Easy to lug around and super fast handling. One of the most accurate guns in my arsenal. If you can find a used one that’s been well taken care of I’d probably take it over a newly manufactured rifle.
My son has this exact gun in a youth model. I’ve been using it when hunting out of my climber just because it’s so much easier to operate at the size in a tight area and it’s lightweight and I easier to free hand shots with. It’s probably 20+ years old but it’s super accurate. Love that gun.

They’ve been in rut at our place in Washington county for at least a couple of weeks but our activity has been really down this late in the year. Not really sure on reasoning behind that. Had fields where I was seeing a bunch of does and now I really haven’t been seeing does but still been seeing bucks cruising. If anything it may be close to over on our place. I killed a really good one yesterday morning and he was long and lean. Not much fat left on him. Same with the one my buddy killed Saturday morning. Both stinking to high heaven as well.
re: Rant’s Opinion of AJ McCarron? My favorite Saban QB.

Well he’s been one of the best xfl/ufl players for the past two years so he did more than just make it in the UFL. Hes also had a 7/8 season NFL career which is pretty damn good all things considered.
I knew AJ back in the highschool days. He threw a hell of a football and was just a really good athlete. He was a product of trashy family though. To be fair his dad seems to have gotten a lot better over the years. Seems like a really good guy these days. I still see him around a good bit. His mom and brother are another story. I always got along fine with AJ but many did not but he was good and he knew it. Part of that cockiness and fire is what made him so good. Would probably describe his mentality of that of a Brett Favre or Phillip Rivers but he wasn’t as talented as those guys obviously.

This is the screen shot I saw. It’s Demetria Warren so who knows.

So I don’t know if the part about the brothers scholarship is true or not but it’s certainly being claimed by people on state boards which doesn’t really mean much. The closest thing I’ve seen to that part of it being true is a screen shot of a Demetric Warren On3 post of him saying that’s what happened. No idea how to post the picture but I’m not sure it matters. He’s as shady as it comes though when it comes to highschool recruiting in Mississippi and is probably not a super reliable source.
re: Dawgs vs Rebels -- who do you think wins & who are you pulling for?
Posted by Rebel920 on 11/8/24 at 7:28 am
I think this is exactly how it plays out. I think Georgia D line gets to dart and that’s when our offense sputters. He won’t turn the ball over but they won’t score enough to win. If the injury report is to be believed our offense is in big trouble in this one. Defense should keep us in the game and keep it close. Pulling for the Rebs in this one. If they can get to 30ish points I think they can pull it out.

He’s listed as doubtful on the injury report if you want to believe kiffin. I don’t believe that and think he plays.

No idea on the Georgia secondary. I assume they are good. Don’t think that’s as big a deal though as the ole miss pass catchers are really good. It all comes down to does Georgia pressure dart. Pass protection has been bad in SEC play up until the last two games. When they protect him he’s really good. When he doesn’t have protection it’s just not as sharp and the offense bogs down. Now he’s still not really turning it over even with bad pass pro and the defense can keep them in games but I think the offense has to click to beat Georgia. So basically tell me who wins the line of scrimmage between ole miss o line and Georgia d line and that’s who wins the game. That’s why I lean Georgia winning.

Except it’s not the maritime museum because that’s a museum. Improving the rail lines around the port is vital infrastructure for a growing port. Paying a total of 3 million from the city to get 72 million to improve the rail system seems like a good deal to me.

Well it’s already under construction and they raised the first beams for it back in May. So yeah. It’s happening. I know some of the jesco guys on the project. Target opening date November 2025 but I’ll be surprised if they make that.
re: NO to Mobile Amtrak service approved by Mobile City Council

I can explain some of the questions about this I think. Essentially this is a 3 year agreement. Operational costs are 3 million a year to be paid to Amtrak of which 1 million a year comes from the city, 1 million from the port and a million from the state. A few of the council members were skeptical of the deal and how much the city would be on the hook for because originally the city was going to be responsible for all 3 million I believe. The port and the state jumped in because with the agreement this allows for the release of 223 million dollars in federal grant funding of which 72 million will improve rail infrastructure for the port. Big win for the port which is growing. The 2 round trip services a day and terminus in mobile ensures that port services on the rail line will receive minimal interruptions for right now. In the future if all goes well expanding the Amtrak services can be revisited. I don’t know on the viability of passenger service in mobile and am skeptical of the economic impact it will have but with the new airport being located next to the train station who knows I guess. But ultimately, at least for the city, this was all about the port.

Got on one this morning in Washington county. Didn’t call too much but he was hot and answering to everything we gave him. Kept closing distance. Couldn’t have been far last time he gobbled. Never put eyes on him. A few minutes after he gobbled the last time at us I heard a group of hens start cackling between us and him. Never heard him again. Was up against the clock with a work call so we just slipped out and will try again another day.

I didn’t even bother yesterday morning with the weather what it was and having spent the entire weekend in Mississippi hunting. Waiting to hit it hard Wednesday and Thursday morning before work.
I’ve got two kids in private school. In for a total tuition of 25k and then I end up donating 2500-3000. Kids in Kindergarten and 2nd grad. They seem to be thriving so it’s been money well spent.

From the article I read for 2025 and 2026 school years only families that make less than 300 percent of the national poverty line will be eligible. Starting with the 2027 school year all Alabama students will be eligible.
