Alabama’s largest city climbed to the top of the ratings after being rated No. 3 in 2021.
The ratings are based on methodology that considers such factors as job market, housing affordability, quality of life, desirability and net migration ratings, according to the media company.
Other factors considered include data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, Sharecare, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and U.S. News rankings of best high schools and hospitals.

Makes sense. Reasonably affordable, good stable population.

Nah, it's true. Huntsville has a larger population percentage that live within the city limits than Birmingham does. Most in Birmingham live in large suburbs surrounding the core city.
Now why there's that difference I'll let you figure out.

Metro population is the more useful number. I think the city of Atlanta is only 500k. We live right on the edge of the BR city limits. My family is counted in the city population. The people at the end of my street are not

Atlanta is like Birmingham. For the same reason.

Must have had a minimum population requirement. Some of the places that are always in the top 5 of these lists weren’t even on theirs
