only reason I put Birmingham above Huntsville is I’ve spent more time there and know more about it.

Better entertainment, better food. More personality.

I think a good comparison is the 2 minor league stadiums. BHMs is downtown and very cool architecture. HSV is in BFE and looks out onto a flat field. They could have done so much more.

So long as you don't have to drive 280 or I65 during rush hours.

I still don't believe it. I think it's just because people in Birmingham didn't fill out their census.

Birmingham is a lot bigger when you include the surrounding metro areas.

Huntsville isn’t a top desirable place to live if you’re from Alabama. You’re further from the beach and there’s not much to do.

As a guy that went to Auburn, there’s no way that Huntsville should be a top 10 list of best places to live. It’s a great town, I understand for the overall population it’s a good place. But if you are in the top 20% of income earners, there’s a hell of a lot better places to live around the country imo.

What makes Birmingham better than Huntsville in terms of entertainment and personality? I'll give that Birmingham may have the edge on food, but it's not nearly as far apart as it was even ten years ago.

It's midway between Huntsville and Madison, and most of the population growth is in Madison and western Huntsville on the other side of Redstone. That's why it was put there.

I've been to Huntsville twice in my life and I probably spent less than 8 hours there total. Kind of meh.

Huntsville is a weird place. It feels more like a mid size town in Iowa or Indiana than Alabama. The traffic is getting ludicrous and the hipster density is out of control.

But it's paradise compared to Montgomery.

How? It is a fricking shithole. It is terrible, just terrible. If you value your life, sanity, and comfort do not come here.

That's because a good chunk of the population isn't from the area, and come from all over the country for the engineering and various other high tech jobs.

Ya, the swarm is moving south from Nashville. This ranking will only accelerate them.

Eh, I live in the country between Huntsville and Guntersville anyway.

I barely spend any time in Huntsville except for work, and that's on the arsenal.

I just like poking at the LA folks.

The problem is that all these arseholes have to live somewhere, and they ain't living in Huntsville.

Again, you'll hate this area do not come here. You will regret the decision and hate every day of your life.

I've never seen a city whose inhabitants try so far to convince themselves and others that they're more than just the meh town that they are in reality than Huntsville.

People brag about Los Angeles all the time and its the nastiest, filthiest, poorest place I have ever seen. Huntsville has an educated population. Not nearly the poverty and filth of Coastal California.

Times have changed, new cities are growing and you're left behind.

I wish this were the case, but unfortunately more and more people are discovering what Huntsville has to offer, and more and more people are moving there.

You can shite on the city all you want, but census data says otherwise.

Oh, I will. The surrounding area sucks arse, too. Nothing at all to offer. No need to come here. No need to have another house built. It is hell on flat Earth. Do. Not. Do. It.

That said, if you do, build/buy on the Easetern side of the city.

The eastern side is prettier over the mountain. But cotton fields are cheaper to build businesses and sub divisions on I guess.

I'm glad I live where I live and work where I work. Easy to get on and off the aresneal and I skip all busy parts.
